Objectives:
to develop and validate the content, appearance, and semantics of a prototype application for monitoring patients in the postoperative period of cardiac surgery.
Methods:
this is a technological development study based on Contextualized Instructional Design. The content and appearance evaluation was conducted by a committee of specialists, and semantic validation was carried out by patients from a cardiac surgery outpatient clinic.
Results:
the application prototype consisted of 43 screens, validated by 17 health specialists, with content validity ratio and appearance validity index results of 0.86 and 0.99, respectively. For semantic validation, 10 patients participated in data collection, with a total content validity index of 0.978.
Conclusions:
the prototype of the “VivaCor PósOp” application demonstrated evidence of content, appearance, and semantic validity, with the potential to stimulate self-care in patients in the postoperative period of cardiac surgery.

Objectives:
to evaluate the risk of postoperative complications in cardiac patients.
Methods:
an evaluative study using the Tuman Score on medical records of 70 adult patients who underwent cardiac surgery at a University Hospital. The R for Windows software was used for the analyses. Descriptive statistics and bivariate analysis were employed to verify the association between the risk score and complications. The relative risk between the Tuman Score and postoperative complications was obtained through Quasi-Poisson regression, with a 95% confidence interval.
Results:
the majority of the patients were male (58.57%), aged between 41-64 years (50%), who underwent myocardial revascularization (50%). These patients were associated with a lower risk of postoperative complications (p=0.003), (p=0.008), and (p=0.000), respectively. High-risk patients had pulmonary complications (RR=1.32, p=0.002) and neurological complications (RR=1.20, p=0.047).
Conclusions:
preoperative risk assessment promotes qualified care to reduce postoperative complications.

Objectives:
to identify whether implementing a supplementary Primary Health Care (PHC) system makes it possible to reduce care costs for older adults with heart diseases.
Methods:
a retrospective cohort of 223 patients with heart disease aged ≥ 60 years. Data were obtained from medical records and cost databases, assessed for a period of one year before and after PHC implementation. The results were expressed as mean absolute frequencies for number of hospitalizations and as average annual expenses expressed in dollars (US$) in relation to cost data.
Results:
there was a reduction in hospitalization expenses after implementing supplementary PHC (p=0.01) and a decrease in the frequency of hospitalizations for the entire sample (p=0.006). There was a reduction in the frequency of consultations at the Emergency Room among frail older adults (p=0.011).
Conclusions:
there was a reduction in hospitalization costs and frequency of visits to the Emergency Room after supplementary PHC.

Objective:
to assess cardiovascular risk among nursing workers at a public hospital.
Method:
a cross-sectional study, with 324 nursing workers, using a questionnaire composed of two information blocks. The first covered issues related to sociodemographic and occupational and health characteristics, and the second, the Revised Framingham Risk Score (FRS), to stratify cardiovascular risk. To assess work-related psychosocial stress, the Swedish Social Control Demand Scale was used.
Results:
the most prevalent modifiable risk factor for CVDs was waist circumference (75.9%), followed by overweight (43.8%), obesity (29.3%), alcohol consumption (21.9%), lipoprotein cholesterol low density (LDL) > 130 (20.7%) and hypertension (20.4%)
Conclusion:
it was found that 96% of workers had a low risk of developing cardiovascular disease in the next ten years, and male workers aged >40 years with shorter working hours are more likely to have cardiovascular disease.

Objectives:
to identify cardiovascular risk and cardiovascular risk factors in adolescents and verify correlations between these variables and biochemical markers, and between blood pressure percentiles, Body Mass Index, and biochemical markers.
Methods:
a cross-sectional study, conducted at a Brazilian school, from August to September 2019, including 205 participants who were interviewed. After the interview, anthropometric assessments, including weight, height, arm circumference, blood pressure checking, and blood collection for laboratory tests were performed. Descriptive and inferential analysis using the chi-square test was conducted.
Results:
a total of 18.5% had blood pressure percentiles >95%, 25.4% were overweight, and 25.9% were at very high cardiovascular risk. Statistically significant associations were found between cardiovascular risk and sex, Body Mass Index and blood pressure percentiles, and between blood pressure percentiles and triglycerides.
Conclusions:
high prevalence of risk factors among school adolescents reinforces the need for interventions for cardiovascular risk reduction in this population.

Objectives:
to describe a medium-range nursing theory for the cardiovascular rehabilitation process.
Methods:
theoretical development study, addressing the elaboration of medium-range theory, based on Roy’s Adaptation Model, which combined theoretical deduction with induction strategies, based on literature review and concept analysis.
Results:
the Medium-Range Theory for Nursing in Cardiovascular Rehabilitation presents eleven concepts and respective definitions, organized in relationships that represent elements, through modeling and image representation. Theoretical assumptions and propositions are presented.
Final Considerations:
the theory presented aims to contribute to the description of the cardiovascular rehabilitation process from the perspective of the adaptation of the person, family and groups, as well as to impact the nursing care implemented to patients in the process. The procedures advanced from conceptualization to operationalization, through the production of theoretical propositions that will guide future theoretical testing.

Objectives:
to identify and discuss the main risk factors for coronary artery disease, observed in nursing students.
Methods:
an observational and cross-sectional study conducted with nursing students at a public college in Niterói, RJ. Data collection involved instruments validated for use in Brazil. PROCAM Quick Check score was used to estimate cardiovascular risk.
Results:
of the 110 students, 88 (80%) were female, with a mean age of 22.03±3.63 years. The most relevant cardiovascular risk factors were alcohol consumption 62 (56.4%), family history of coronary artery disease 35 (31.8%), poor eating habits (49.5%) and stress, whose domain “Professional training” received the highest mean, with 11.62 ± 3.42 points.
Conclusions:
the most frequent risk factors in nursing students are stress, inadequate nutrition and risky consumption of alcoholic beverages. These present a low risk for coronary artery disease through PROCAM Quick Check score.

Objective:
To describe the scientific evidence of complications and the need for cardiovascular interventions in people hospitalized by Covid-19.
Method:
a scoping review carried out according to The Joanna Briggs Institute recommendations, in the MEDLINE, CINAHL, SCOPUS and Web of Science databases.
Results:
A total of 11 published studies from December of 2019 to April of 2020, presenting low levels of evidence were selected. The evidence described the myocardial injury as the most common cardiac complication reported in Covid-19, reported in approximately 8% to 12% of all severe individuals, with indications for oxygen therapy interventions, thrombotic disorders prevention and treatment, hemodynamic monitoring and assessment tests of cardiac function’s performance, along with biochemical markers of myocardial injury, yet not addressing nursing interventions.
Conclusion:
Cardiovascular complications and interventions have not shown consensus on the found evidence, requiring causal analysis by explanatory studies that support multi-professional clinical protocols in health.
