Objectives:
to develop a middle-range theory of the existential dimension of being-in-the-world of chronic kidney disease in the light of humanistic nursing theory.
Methods:
exploratory-descriptive, qualitative, Grounded Theory study, whose guiding question was: what theoretical relationships can be established between clinical practice carried out in the context of renal replacement therapies and the concepts of humanistic nursing theory? Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with nursing staff and chronic kidney disease patients.
Results:
a theory was developed that describes and explains the existential dimension of being-in-the-world of chronic kidney disease, identifying the qualitative evidence present in this context.
Final Considerations:
the theory contributes to clinical nursing practice qualification in nephrology, consolidating nursing as an art and science, because it arises from care practice and research, in addition to rescuing what differentiates it within the health disciplines, which is care par excellence.

Objectives:
to evaluate the prevalence of sarcopenia in individuals aged 50 years or older on hemodialysis; to verify the association between sarcopenia and sociodemographic, clinical, anthropometric factors, components of sarcopenia and quality of life (QoL); and to correlate the components of sarcopenia with QoL.
Methods:
Participated 83 individuals on hemodialysis. Sarcopenia was established according to the current European consensus. Dynamometry to determine strength, calf circumference (CC) and appendicular skeletal muscle mass index (ASMMI) to obtain muscle mass and gait speed (GS) for physical performance. For QoL used the WHOQOL-bref.
Results:
the prevalence of sarcopenia was 32.6% (CC) and 18.1% (ASMMI). There was no association between sarcopenia and QoL. Both handgrip strength (r=0.25) and GS (r=0.36) showed a correlation with physical domain.
Conclusions:
sarcopenia was expressive, and the aspects of functionality determine the physical impairment in this population.

Objective:
to assess the financial toxicity of people with chronic kidney disease undergoing hemodialysis treatment.
Method:
a descriptive analytical cross-sectional study, carried out with 214 people, between February and May 2022. For data collection, a sociodemographic and clinical instrument and the COmprehensive Score for financial Toxicity were used. For analysis, the Odds Ratio, ANOVA and Cronbach’s alpha tests were used.
Results:
the mean financial toxicity score was 20.30. Women with a monthly family income of at most two minimum wages are more likely to have some degree of financial toxicity (Odds Ratio: 0.85; 0.76).
Conclusion:
financial toxicity was identified to different degrees and varied according to sociodemographic and clinical characteristics. Measuring financial toxicity can help nurses plan care and develop strategies to avoid interrupting treatment.

Objectives:
to assess the prevalence and associated risk factors for urinary tract infection in patients with chronic kidney disease under conservative treatment and identify the microorganisms isolated in the urine of these patients and the staging of chronic kidney disease.
Methods:
a cross-sectional, analytical study carried out at the Conservative Treatment Outpatient Clinic of a university hospital in the city of São Paulo.
Results:
the prevalence of urinary tract infection is 22%. The risk factors Diabetes Mellitus, hypertension, heart disease, neoplasms and thyroid and autoimmune diseases stand out in the infected group (p < 0.001). Most of the microorganisms found in urine cultures (87.9%) were Gram-negative, being Escherichia coli (50.70%), followed by Klebsiella pneumoniae (23.1%) and Enterococcus spp. (9.7%).
Conclusions:
the findings of this investigation reveal the intrinsic association between risk factors and microorganisms for the development of urinary tract infection.

Objective:
to understand faith and spirituality in the meaning of life of the elderly with Chronic Kidney Disease.
Methods:
a qualitative research based on Viktor Emil Frankl’s Logotherapy and Existential Analysis. Twenty elderly people were interviewed between August 2018 and January 2019, between 60 and 79 years old, who underwent dialysis in a private unit, a reference in nephrology in the city of Salvador, Bahia, Brazil.
Results:
two categories of analysis emerged: Meaning of faith in the lived of the elderly with Chronic Kidney Disease; Faith as a forerunner of the meaning of life.
Final considerations:
faith and spirituality were understood as a fundamental foundation in the search for the meaning of the study participants’ lives, besides unveiling itself as an important strategy of resilience to the experienced of the elderly person with Chronic Kidney Disease.

Objective:
Identify and analyze existing evidence regarding the benefits of spirituality and / or religiosity in patients with Chronic Kidney Disease.
Method:
Integrative review carried out through consultation of databases: Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences, Scientific Electronic Library Online, US National Library of Medicine and Scopus. The following descriptors were used: chronic kidney disease, spirituality and religion. Primary articles published by December 2017 were included.
Results:
Twenty-six articles were selected, from which four thematic categories emerged: benefits as a modality of coping, perception of quality of life, mental health and improvement of renal function after transplantation.
Conclusion:
Benefits included those related to situational coping modalities, such as the strengthening of hope, social support and coping with pain; those related to mental health, such as the lower risk of suicide and fewer depressive symptoms; improvement in the perception of quality of life and in renal function after transplantation.

Objective:
to identify Nursing Diagnoses of 5th stage chronic kidney disease patients undergoing hemodialysis.
Method:
cross-sectional, descriptive and quantitative study carried out with 151 patients undergoing hemodialysis in a clinic specialized in nephrology from the Northwest of the Paraná State. Nursing Diagnoses were determined through Nanda-I in which had the percentage greater than 50%. The analysis used was the simple statistics.
Results:
17 Nursing Diagnoses were identified, emphasizing the risks present in 100% of patients: risks for electrolyte imbalance; ineffective kidney perfusion; infection: vascular injuries, adverse response to the iodine-based contrast-enhanced and impaired urinary elimination.
Conclusion:
the main diagnoses listed reflect the more frequent risks that patients undergoing hemodialysis are exposed to. Being aware of these risks allows the nursing planning with early interventions, in order to prevent complications related to the disease and to promote best life conditions.

Objective:
To understand the experience of people with chronic kidney disease using arteriovenous fistula.
Method:
Qualitative and exploratory study based on Social Phenomenology, conducted on 30 adults undergoing hemodialysis by using the fistula, interviewed in 2017. The interviews were analyzed according to the empirical-comprehensive model proposed by Amedeo Giorgi.
Results:
We found the categories “The changed body aesthetics”; “The perception of the other about my body”; and “The fistula as an inseparable condition for life maintenance.”
Final considerations:
The experience of people using fistula showed that this venous access leaves marks that change the body aesthetics, making the body imperfect. Such changes cause low self-esteem and attract the look of the other, causing embarrassment in those who have the body changed. Thus, they react by camouflaging the fistula, without which there is no life. This perception arises from the fear that works as a catalyst for self-care.
