    ABSTRACT

    Objectives:

to understand the experience of post-discharge health care of primary cancer treatment from the perspective of survivors.

    Methods:

a descriptive study with a qualitative approach, using Martin Heidegger’s Existential Phenomenology framework. Analysis of semi-structured interviews of 11 cancer survivors, after primary treatment, was carried out through vague and median and hermeneutic understanding.

    Results:

three units of meaning emerged in the search for the unveiling of the phenomenon: Respecting physical limitations after cancer; Transcending themselves after illness; and Overcoming the ghost of fear.

    Final Considerations:

cancer survivors experience care in intentional choices favorable to health, when they overcome their own limitations, fear of relapse or new cancer. The need to improve continuous professional monitoring in order to answer questions reinforce favorable attitudes and enhance the chances of better quality of life for cancer survivors.

    ABSTRACT

    Objective:

To evaluate factors associated with health dissatisfaction of public elementary school teachers.

    Methods:

Cross-sectional study conducted among teachers from a Midwest capital, in 2017. A self-administered questionnaire composed of a collection of validated instruments and additional questions was used. Poisson Regression was performed, considering significance p <0.05.

    Results:

sample composed of 326 teachers, with an average age of 43 years, 87.1% female. Concerning health conditions, 19.5% were dissatisfied and 31.5% were indifferent. In a simultaneous analysis of the factors of interest, a statistically significant association was found among teacher’s health dissatisfaction and the presence of symptoms of common mental disorders (PRa= 2.28), musculoskeletal symptoms in the last 12 months (PRa= 1.71), voice disorders (PRa= 1.29), never/rarely waking up rested (PRa= 1.45), never/rarely engage in physical activity/sports (PRa= 1.57), among other factors.

    Conclusion:

never/rarely waking up rested and engaging in physical activity/sports, the presence of common mental disorders, musculoskeletal symptoms and voice disorders were associated with health dissatisfaction.

    ABSTRACT

    Objective:

To evaluate occupational hazards affecting nursing professionals’ health in the environment of the hospital.

    Method:

Descriptive-exploratory research with a qualitative approach.

    Results:

The main hazards affecting nursing professionals were work overload due to the large number of patients or the small number of professionals, inadequate infrastructure, and insufficient organizational management. It became evident the work interferences in the nursing professional’s life are enormous. Despite the existence of health occupational risk management, there is still a shortage of bigger endeavors to be employed in the hospital routine. As a main result of the study, a Standard Operational Protocol (SOP) for biological risk was created to be applied in a hospital setting.

    Conclusion:

Based on the identification of occupational hazards, it was suggested the Standard Operational Protocol which should be standardized to manage biological occupational hazards, to ensure the adequate flow of procedures after the exposure, as well as the occupational safety of nursing professionals.

    ABSTRACT

    Objectives:

theoretical validation of the concept of low self-efficacy in health as a nursing diagnosis construct.

    Methods:

construction of a middle-range theory for validating diagnoses, comprised of five stages: definition of the approach for building the theory; definition of the main concepts; creation of a pictorial diagram; formulation of proposals; establishment of causal relationships and evidence for clinical practice. The main concepts were identified through a literature review and the studies were taken from the LILACS, SCOPUS, CINAHL and PubMed/MEDLINE databases. The final sample was comprised of 92 articles.

    Results:

eighteen etiological factors and 16 clinical indicators were identified; characterized as antecedents and manifestations for inferring a diagnosis of low self-efficacy in health.

    Conclusions:

the related concepts of the new nursing diagnosis of low self-efficacy in health, to be applied in clinical nursing practice, were identified and defined.

    Objectives:

to analyze lawsuits brought by beneficiaries of health insurance operators.

    Methods:

this was a cross-sectional descriptive study carried out in a large-capacity private health insurance operator using data collected by the company from 2012 to 2015.

ninety-six lawsuits were brought by 86 beneficiaries regarding medical procedures (38.5%), treatments (26.1%), examinations (14.6%), medications (9.4%), home care (6.2%), and other types of hospitalization (5.2%). The procedures with the highest number of lawsuits were percutaneous rhizotomy; chemotherapy; treatment-related positron-emission tomography scans; and for medications relative to antineoplastic and Hepatitis C treatment.

    Conclusions:

the lawsuits were filed because of the operators’ refusal to comply with items not established in contracts or not regulated and authorized by the Brazilian National Regulatory Agency for Private Health Insurance and Plans, refusals considered unfounded.

    Objectives:

to describe the strategies used by street market saleswomen to recognize their health needs.

    Methods:

qualitative research, based on the Human Needs Theory. The data were collected through semi-structured interviews, with the participation of 15 street market saleswomen. Content Analysis was used to interpret the results.

    Results:

the following categories emerged: “Potentialities and challenges for addressing health needs”, which reflect changes in attitudes and practices related to socially recognized behaviors as harmful, and changes in the work process; and “Popular practices in health care”, which points out therapeutic alternatives for the resolution of health problems.

    Final considerations:

the therapeutic choices of street market saleswomen are geared towards meeting their perceived health needs. While the minority of these women recognize their more complex health needs to satisfy it, it is necessary to overcome barriers and limitations in an ongoing way in their lives.
