Objective:
to describe the profile of nursing diagnoses evidenced in indigenous elderly in the community.
Methods:
this is a cross-sectional study, carried out with 51 indigenous elderly people of Potiguara ethnicity, through a nursing consultation. The clinical data, obtained from the consultation, were analyzed following Risner’s diagnostic reasoning process and the NANDA-I Taxonomy (2018-2020). For greater accuracy, the diagnoses obtained underwent peer review by a specialist.
Results:
37 diagnoses were identified, such as Impaired dentition (98.0%), Risk for impaired skin integrity (66.7%), Chronic pain (64.7%), Risk for deficient fluid volume (54.9%), Impaired swallowing (45.1%), Impaired walking (45.1%), Disturbed sleep pattern (43.1%), Stress urinary incontinence (41.2%), Risk for falls (35.3%), and Sexual dysfunction (33.3%).
Conclusion:
the diagnoses identified were predominantly from Safety/protection domain and result from factors that negatively influence indigenous elderly’s functional capacity.

Objective:
to analyze the cognitive capacity and functional development of the elderly with and without diabetes.
Methods:
case-control study, comparing elderly people with and without diabetes. 218 patients interviewed in outpatient clinics: geriatrics and endocrinology. Validated instruments were used for cognitive and functional assessment.
Results:
people with diabetes had low scores on cognitive tests. HbA1c and education were related to memory loss, compromising the basic and instrumental activities of daily life.
Conclusion:
this study evaluated that high glycemic values affect the autonomy of the elderly, compromising cognition and functional performance in activities of daily living.

Objective:
to describe the sociodemographic and health characteristics of elderly people, measure the score of total resilience and by sex and verify the association of sociodemographic and health variables with total resilience and by sex.
Methods:
this is a household survey with 808 elderly people, assessed by validated instruments. Student’s t test and multiple linear regression (p<0.05).
Results:
most were female, 60|-|79 years old. The total resilience score was 78.06, for men 81.53 and for women, 76.32. Total resilience was associated with males; positive self-perceived health; greater participation in Advanced Activities of Daily Living; fewer morbidities; absence of depressive symptoms. Among men and women, resilience was associated with greater participation in Advanced Activities of Daily Living and absence of depressive symptoms and, specifically, among women, positive self-perceived health.
Conclusion:
these results contribute to nursing care, aiming to encourage resilience.

Objective:
to propose a structural model of active ageing among elderly community members based on the World Health Organization’s theoretical framework and to identify the most relevant determinants of active ageing to the proposed model.
Methods:
a cross-sectional and analytical study conducted with 957 elderly community members. Confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation modeling were performed.
Results:
the final measurement model was composed of the six determinants of active ageing: behavioral (R²=0.66); personal (R²=0.74); physical environment (R²=0.70); social (R²=0.77); economic (R²=0.44); and social and health services (R²=0.95). The last one showed good quality of adjustment: χ2/gl=3.50; GFI=0.94; CFI=0.92; TLI=0.90; RMSEA=0.05. By analyzing the trajectories between determinants and active ageing, the most representative was social and health services active ageing (λ=0.97; p<0.001).
Conclusion:
satisfaction with access to health services and positive self-assessment of health status were the factors that most contributed to active ageing in this population.

Objective:
to build and validate educational video for elderly individuals about fall risks.
Methods:
methodological study with video building. validated by 22 judges and assessed by 22 elderly individuals. Content was selected from the Fall Prevention Model and items from the Falls Risk Awareness Questionnaire. Items with an agreement greater than 0.80 were considered valid. verified through Content Validation Index (CVI) and binomial test.
Results:
building the video was guided by the Cognitive Theory of Multimedia Learning. Digital animation and audio narration were used. It lasted ten minutes and five seconds and included biological. socioeconomic. behavioral and environmental risks as well as precautions to avoid them. The CVI of judges had an average of 0.99. and of elderly individuals. an average of 1.0.
Conclusion:
the video was built and validated for content and understanding and can be used to prevent falls in elderly individuals.

Objective:
Describe the construct validation process of the instrument “Nursing care for the assessment, prevention and treatment of cutaneous xerosis in the elderly”.
Method:
Methodological study carried out with 101 nurses in four hospitals in the great João Pessoa, between July and September 2018. Construct validation was performed through exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis, in addition to the consistency check by Cronbach’s alpha.
Results:
Through the factorial analysis, three factors of the instrument construct were defined: treatment performed for cutaneous xerosis, preventive care for cutaneous xerosis and skin evaluation, with a total explanation variance of 47.77%. In Bartlett’s sphericity test, p <0.001 was obtained, and the general Cronbach’s alpha was 0.811.
Conclusion:
The instrument proved to be valid and reliable, contributing to the training and practice of nurses as an integral part in the process of caring for the elderly.

Objective:
to estimate the mechanical restraint prevalence in Nursing Homes in Brazil and the factors associated with its performance.
Methods:
this cross-sectional study was carried out in 14 institutions, with a final sample of 443 elderly people. Mechanical restraint was considered as a dependent variable.
Results:
there was a 7.45% prevalence of mechanical restraint considering bed rails and 3.84% without considering bed rails. Main justification for restraint use was risk of falls (66.7%), and restraint duration was 24 hours (84.8%). The factors associated with the dependent variable were: wandering (p=0.000); MMSE, with cognitive loss (p=0.000); Katz Index, with dependence for Activities of Daily Living (p=0.000); and Alzheimer’s comorbidity (p=0.001)
Conclusion:
prevalence was lower than international studies, but there was an association with worsening of wandering, dependence, cognitive worsening, and Alzheimer’s Disease, showing the need for alternative interventions to mechanical restraint.

Objective:
To evaluate the predictive dimensions of clinical-functional conditions and the cognitive capacity of elderly people living at home.
Method:
Cross-sectional, population-based, analytical, quantitative study was utilized. For data collection, an instrument with sociodemographic and behavioral variables, the Functional Clinical Vulnerability Index; and, to assess cognition, the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) was used. Descriptive analyzes and statistical tests were conducted.
Results:
305 elderly subjects, living at home, in urban and rural areas participated in the study. They were classified as robust (71.8%), pre-frail (22%) and frail (6.2%). As for cognition, 24.9% of them had cognitive impairment. It was shown that cognitive impairment predicts the development of functional disability.
Conclusion:
It is considered that health professionals should both act in order to maintain the functional and cognitive conditions of the robust and pre-frail elderly people and pay attention to the rehabilitation of the disabilities installed in those elderly people who are in a situation of frailty.
