Results:

The manuals addressed first aid care and immobilization methods, from the simplest, such as improvised splints, to the application of plaster casts.
Conclusions:

Objectives:
to analyze the canvas “Retrato de Glete de Alcântara” (freely translated as Portrait of Glete de Alcântara) and discuss the effect of the canvas for Tarsila do Amaral and for Brazilian nursing.
Methods:
a study in the historical perspective, in the field of visual culture, with analysis in two phases: pre-iconography and iconography.
Results:
Tarsila do Amaral brings up the woman Glete de Alcântara without the attributes that identify nursing. In this sense, the representation of women on the canvas is a person aligned with the hairstyle of her time, elegantly dressed, with seriousness and haughtiness accentuated by a fixed and directed look.
Final considerations:
an attempt was made to advance beyond Glete de Alcântara’s professional life and her portrayed relationship networks, as well as to approach Tarsila do Amaral’s trajectory, beyond the aesthetics and recognition gained.

Objective:
To analyze the symbolic effects of the official military uniform of the nurses from Brazilian Army in World War II.
Method:
This research was developed using the historical method, with iconographic sources. The data were discussed based on the concepts of the social world theory, by Pierre Bourdieu.
Results:
The images selected demonstrate the own meaning of the uniforms, evidencing the functions and the social position of those who wear it, being private and obligatory to use it in the military field.
Final considerations:
In the case of the nurses from the Brazilian Expeditionary Force, the appropriation of uniforms promoted the visual communication representing military nurse in the context of war, at the same time it served for distinction purposes in the army, but not necessarily in the nursing field. Symbolically, they remained amongst the walls of the barracks even after the end of the war and, thus, they remained unknown and marked by the symbols of forgetfulness.

Objective:
to analyze the influence of two São Paulo State experiences in the choice of psychosocial care centers as guiding service providers for the national mental health policy.
Method:
qualitative, exploratory, and descriptive study using oral history as a methodology and theoretical reference.
Results:
eight professionals involved in the deployment of the mental health policy in the cities of Santos and São Paulo between the years 1989 and 1992 were interviewed. Data were analyzed after treating the narratives and grouping the most significant content. Two central themes emerged: development of the local-regional model, and the model's influence on the choice of the psychosocial care center.
Conclusion:
due to greater insertion of the Santos experience group in the spheres of the federal government, its influence on the choice of the substitute model was higher in ideological terms, whereas the São Paulo model had its influence restricted for political reasons.
