Objective:
To analyze the knowledge of professionals working in a Nursing Home about the Nursing Process before and after the awareness workshop.
Methods:
This is strategic action research, developed with nursing professionals and managers of a Nursing Home in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Data were collected between January and June 2023, through semi-structured interviews before and after an awareness workshop. Discursive textual analysis of the data was carried out.
Results:
The central category “Understanding about the Nursing Process in Nursing Homes” emerged, which was unitized into two units of meaning and three categories of analysis.
Conclusion:
Data revealed non-use and lack of knowledge of the Nursing Process before awareness raising. Afterwards, a deeper understanding of the topic and its importance was identified. Awareness-raising workshops contribute to transformation of knowledge.

Objective:
to analyze the constitution of care offered to older adults with disabilities, from Long Term Care Facility professionals’ perspective.
Methods:
this is a discourse analysis based on the post-structuralist framework. Participants in this study are professionals involved in the care for older adults, totaling 14 respondents, 13 women and one man.
Results:
from professionals’ perspective, there is a fine line between caring for older adults with disabilities and maintaining their autonomy. Care in which autonomy is restricted predisposes older adults to a process of dependency.
Final considerations:
caring for older adults with disabilities constitutes the challenge between caring and maintaining independence. Thus, older adult-centered care should be taken as a premise so that their individualities are respected.

Objective:
to describe and analyze the scientific production on health care for Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals, Transvestites, Transsexuals, Transgenders, Intersex (LGBTI+) and other variations of gender or sexual orientation living in Nursing Homes (NHs).
Methods:
a scoping review, in which PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus and Virtual Health Library databases were analyzed and studies from other sources were added. After assessment by two independent reviewers, 19 publications were selected to compose the sample.
Results:
the studies were grouped into two categories.
Final considerations:
NHs are configured as spaces that are not very inclusive, where LGBTI+ elders’ demands are not considered due to the cis-heteronormativity in force in these places. Training and awareness of health professionals on the LGBTI+ theme is a tool that can make such spaces more inclusive for this population.

Objective:
to report the experience of telemonitoring Brazilian nursing homes before coronavirus and COVID-19 infections.
Methods:
a descriptive experience report that occurred between March 18 and April 25, 2020 through telemonitoring nursing homes in Salvador, Bahia, following a script previously prepared for first contact and follow-up. The telemonitoring was carried out by professors from the School of Nursing of Universidade Federal da Bahia and Graduate Program students for four weeks.
Results:
thirty-two institutions were followed for four weeks. Some facilities and difficulties appeared during the monitoring.
Final consideratios:
as nursing homes are collective households, their residents are vulnerable to transmission of infections. In addition, the diversity of structures and economic, social and human resources needs of these locations reveal their fragility and urgency of public policies that address such diversities.

Objective:
to estimate the mechanical restraint prevalence in Nursing Homes in Brazil and the factors associated with its performance.
Methods:
this cross-sectional study was carried out in 14 institutions, with a final sample of 443 elderly people. Mechanical restraint was considered as a dependent variable.
Results:
there was a 7.45% prevalence of mechanical restraint considering bed rails and 3.84% without considering bed rails. Main justification for restraint use was risk of falls (66.7%), and restraint duration was 24 hours (84.8%). The factors associated with the dependent variable were: wandering (p=0.000); MMSE, with cognitive loss (p=0.000); Katz Index, with dependence for Activities of Daily Living (p=0.000); and Alzheimer’s comorbidity (p=0.001)
Conclusion:
prevalence was lower than international studies, but there was an association with worsening of wandering, dependence, cognitive worsening, and Alzheimer’s Disease, showing the need for alternative interventions to mechanical restraint.

Objective:
compare the quality of life (QOL) of aged residents in homes for aged people with or without symptoms of depression, and identify social, physical activity; leisure; health and basic activities of daily living (ADL) variables that correlate with QOL scores.
Method:
cross-sectional study conducted with 101 institutionalized aged. Multiple linear regression was used for data analysis.
Results:
symptoms of depression changed negatively the QOL in the domains: autonomy; present, past and future activities; social participation; intimacy and total score. Dependent aged presented lower QOL for the performance of ADL in the domains: autonomy; social participation and total score; dancing without limitation of movement; liking the residential and not presenting symptoms of depression were the variables that positively influenced the QOL of the aged.
Conclusion:
social and psychological support, good living conditions and stimulating assistance can improve the QOL of institutionalized elderlies.
