Objectives:
to analyze the development of children discharged from the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and how hospitalization interferes with child development, from parents’ point of view.
Methods:
a descriptive-exploratory, documentary and qualitative study, carried out with parents of children discharged from the Intensive Care Unit through a telephone survey and supplementation in medical records. Data were analyzed using Bardin’s tool and discussed according to scientific evidence.
Results:
from parents’ point of view, delay in physical development was not observed, however difficulties in breastfeeding and weight gain were reported. Changes in speech and changes in behavior considered abnormal were also delays in child evolution.
Final Considerations:
from parents’ point of view, changes in speech may be associated with hospitalization in an Intensive Care Unit, while difficulties related to breastfeeding and delays in cognition may be altered by conditions of prematurity and low weight at birth.

Objective:
to describe and compare the frequency of neurobehavioral signs in preterm infants in traditional and humanized body weight check.
Methods:
a quantitative, quasi-experimental, cross-over study, carried out in a Neonatal Unit at a university hospital with a sample of 30 preterm newborns, randomly assigned and allocated in control group (traditional) and intervention group (humanized), with collection of general data, vital signs before and after procedures and footage.
Results:
there was a higher frequency of approach signs in humanized weight check compared to traditional check. Moreover, withdrawal signs were more frequent in traditional weight check compared to humanized check.
Conclusion:
in this regard, humanized body weight check provided greater benefits to preterm infants, making it necessary to foster discussions about humanization of care, so that this practice can be performed routinely in health units.

Objectives:
to evaluate the effect of music applied within ten and 15 minutes, combined with swaddling, on behavioral (facial action) and physiological (heart rate) responses to pain in full-term newborns, before and during venipuncture for blood sampling.
Methods:
a randomized, triple-blind, clinical trial with 52 rooming in infants randomly assigned to four groups of 13: Experimental 1 (music [ten minutes] plus swaddling), Experimental 2 (music [15 minutes] plus swaddling), Control 1 (no music [ten minutes] plus swaddling), and Control 2 (no music [15 minutes] plus swaddling). Pain was measured using the Neonatal Facial Coding System in the basal and procedural moments.
Results:
experimental 2 group showed high pain absence (p < 0.05); low heart rate mean (p < 0.0001) in the basal and procedural (antisepsis, puncture, blood squeezing/aspiration, compression) moments.
Conclusions:
neonates who listened to 15 minutes of music plus swaddling showed a greater absence of facial pain actions.

Objective:
To analyze the repercussions of the training of nurses working in the Intensive Care Unit for the management of continuous hemodialysis regarding the safety of critical patients with acute renal failure.
Method:
Qualitative research developed considering James Reason's reference in the Intensive Care Unit of a private hospital. The data was collected with 23 nurses who worked for more than three months in the management of continuous hemodialysis through a semi-structured interview, and analyzed with the thematic content analysis technique.
Results:
There are weaknesses in the training of intensive care nurses for the management of continuous hemodialysis that become a latent failure. Such a failure results in difficulties in handling hemodialysis, with risks for these professionals to commit active failures.
Final considerations:
The training program in service for the management of continuous hemodialysis must be perfected, to develop skills and competencies in nurses and improve their performance.

Objective:
To analyse the strategies found by families to deal with the situation of critical illness, in their lived experience in a family and in an inpatient context.
Method:
This research fits into a qualitative paradigm and a phenomenological approach, according to Van-Manen. Participants were referred to a "snowball" effect method and the data was collected through interviews with open-ended questions.
Results:
From the collected data three essential themes emerged revealing the strategies: Being aware; Building dialogue; Ensuring comfort.
Final considerations:
In the therapeutic intervention nurses verify that families facing a critical-illness interact between themselves and with the ICU team. Families interacting with nurses can find cognitive and emotional support allowing them to be aware of the situation and to speak about it in order to strengthen and to comfort themselves.

Objective:
The goal of this study is to analyze nurses’ leadership in intensive care units at hospitals in the state of São Paulo, Brazil, in the face of positive and negative critical incidents.
Method:
Exploratory, descriptive study, conducted with 24 nurses by using the Critical Incident Technique as a methodological benchmark.
Results:
Results were grouped into 61 critical incidents distributed into categories. Researchers came to the conclusion that leadership-related situations interfere with IC nurses’ behaviors. Among these situations they found: difficulty in the communication process; conflicts in the daily exercise of nurses’ activities; people management; and the setting of high quality care targets.
Final considerations:
Researchers identified a mixed leadership model, leading them to the conclusion that nurses’ knowledge and practice of contemporary leadership theories/styles are crucial because they facilitate the communication process, focusing on behavioral aspects and beliefs, in addition to valuing flexibility. This positively impacts the organization’s results.

Objective:
analyze the maternal experience in a neonatal intensive care unit, focusing on relations of recognition.
Method:
a qualitative study, built on the perspective of Gadamer’s hermeneutics, based on Honneth’s concept of recognition. In-depth interviews were conducted with 10 mothers of children admitted to a neonatal intensive care unit.
Results:
failures were reported in the process of mother recognition in the unit, with consequent feelings of insecurity and obligation to child care, resulting in fragility of self-esteem.
Conclusion:
interactions with health professionals in the NICU and its standards and protocols cause vulnerabilities and affect maternal recognition and autonomy.
