Objective:
to analyze the results of insertion procedures of Peripherally Inserted Central Catheters in newborns using two measurement methods.
Methods:
this is a randomized clinical trial, presenting descriptive and exploratory results of variables. It was held at a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Data were collected between September 2018 and 2019. The sample analyzed was 88 catheter insertion procedures, distributed in two groups. Study approved by an Institutional Review Board and obtained registration in the country and abroad. Descriptive analysis and logistic regression of data.
Results:
modified measurement obtained a significant difference for the central catheter tip location. Elective removals and adverse events were not significant between groups; however, poor positioning was related to adverse events.
Conclusions:
between the two methods analyzed, the modified measurement obtained better results in the proper catheter tip positioning and, consequently, less risk to patients.

Objectives:
To analyze the motivation of neonatal intensive care nurses and the meanings attributed to the continuity of professional training.
Methods:
qualitative study, developed between August and December 2018, based on interviews with 16 nurses working in Neonatal Intensive Care in cities in seven Health Regions in the State of São Paulo. The theory of self-determination and narrative analysis supported this study.
Results:
the search for specialization and qualification of care is the plot, with the motivation for training initially based on the specialization and qualification of care. Over time, they revisit understandings carried out about care, making considerations about training, factors that influence motivation.
Final Considerations:
the motivation expressed by the nurse in the search for training is shown through movements marked by the limitations apprehended in practice on the care of the risk neonate and the acquisition of knowledge to act with quality in this specific health scenario.

Objetive:
To investigate the association between analgesia during labor and occurrence of neonatal outcomes.
Method:
Retrospective cohort study with medical records of 850 parturient. The exposure variable of interest was receiving pharmacological analgesia during labor and neonatal outcomes were: one- and five-minute Apgar, resuscitation maneuvers and referral of the newborn to Neonatal ICU. A logistic regression was carried out to obtain Odds Ratios and 95% confidence interval, with adjustment for confounding factors.
Results:
Among the women studied, 35% received analgesia and this use was associated with a greater chance of neonatal outcomes such as one-minute Apgar < 7 (p <0.0001), resuscitation maneuvers (p <0.001) and referral to the Neonatal ICU (p = 0.004), mostly were among low-risk pregnant women, even after adjustments.
Conclusion:
The use of pharmacological analgesia during labor is associated with one-minute Apgar < 7, resuscitation maneuvers and referral to the Neonatal ICU.

Objectives:
to describe the process of construction and validation of an educational booklet to promote bonding between mothers and newborns in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
Methods:
methodological study developed through data collection in the literature and with the target audience; construction of the booklet; qualification of the material through validation by judges (health and communication experts/designer) and assessment by the target audience (mothers of at-risk newborns). Data were analyzed descriptively.
Results:
booklet content was validated, obtaining an overall Content Validity Index of 0.92. Appearance was rated “Superior” with 80% percentage. Mothers performed an assessment with 100% agreement between the items.
Conclusions:
the booklet was validated in all domains assessed and can be used by mothers with children hospitalized in the Neonatal Unit.

Objectives:
to identify predisposing and enabling factors as well as the health needs associated with the discontinuance of outpatient follow-up of newborns who were hospitalized at neonatal intensive care unit.
Methods:
cross-sectional study, using the behavioral model of health services use. The study was composed of 358 mothers and newborns referred to the outpatient follow-up after discharge. Characterization, perception of social support, postnatal depression, and attendance to appointments data were collected, analyzed by the R software (3.3.1).
Results:
outpatient follow-up was discontinued by 31.28% of children in the first year after discharge. In multiple regression analysis, the chance of discontinuance was higher for newborns who used mechanical ventilation (OR = 1.68; 95%CI 1.04-2.72) and depended on technology (OR = 3.54; 95%CI 1.32-9.5).
Conclusions:
predisposing factors were associated with the discontinuance of follow-up; enabling factors and health needs did not present a significant association. Children with more complex health conditions require additional support to participate in follow-up programs, thus ensuring the continuity of care.

Objective:
To analyze maternal care for siblings of preterm babies hospitalized in the neonatal intensive care unit.
Method:
Qualitative research using symbolic interactionism as a theoretical reference and narrative research as a methodological reference. Ten mothers were surveyed through semi-structured interviews.
Results:
Three thematic units emerged from the analysis of data: “social support in the sharing of child care”; “promotion of adaptation to the arrival of a sibling” and “maternal feelings and coping”.
Final considerations:
Care for the premature child’s sibling is developed under mothers’ physical distance from him/her, justified by the need to remain close to the premature child due to risks and fragility related to the condition.
