Objectives:
to describe researchers’ experience in collecting data from families of femicide victims.
Methods:
this descriptive, qualitative study took the form of an experience report and was conducted in Manaus, Amazonas, Brazil. It involved documentary consultation, training researchers, scheduling and conducting interviews, and using a field diary to record the researchers’ perceptions and experiences.
Results:
the descriptions and photographs of the crime scene were both distressing and impactful for the researchers. The mementos of the victims (including clothing, objects, and childhood photos) shown by their families were deeply moving. Identifying with these experiences facilitated listening to the stories told by the relatives. It was essential to maintain a non-judgmental attitude, acknowledge the loss, provide support for the suffering, and demonstrate a willingness to help.
Final Considerations:
the experience encompassed both theoretical and methodological aspects that were planned and executed in data collection, fostering the development of skills and sensitivity towards the cases. Beyond knowledge and preparation, researchers are expected to exhibit ethical conduct and empathetic capacity.

Objectives:
to report the experience of conducting phenomenological interviews through virtual means in a group of older adults during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Methods:
an experience report on the main aspects that the researchers experienced in the virtual phenomenological interview process as an alternative to face-to-face interviews with older adults during social isolation due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Results:
the experience of conducting phenomenological interviews by videoconference was useful, enriching and satisfying. The difficulties that arose were smaller in relation to the benefits of the technique.
Final Considerations:
the use of technology to optimize qualitative data collection is a recommended strategy that can be adopted by nursing whenever the research objectives allow.

Objective:
describe the skills of nurses to conduct family interviews based on the Family Care Guide for Nursing Clinical Practice.
Method:
exploratory case study that analyzed the content of 16 guides applied to a child emergency service by a novice nurse from the family nursing area.
Results:
the records indicated the presence of perceptual, conceptual, and executive skills required to conduct family interviews, in particular skills for the development of genograms, therapeutic relationships, and actions to fulfill family needs.
Final considerations:
the Family Care Guide for Nursing Clinical Practice is a useful tool to guide the training processes, promote the development of family interview skills in novice nurses, and allow the cognitive consolidation of essential elements of patient- and family-centered care.
