Objectives:
to describe sociodemographic and health characteristics of older adults with morbidity, identify self-care practices and verify the association of sociodemographic variables with those related to health and self-care practices.
Methods:
a quantitative, analytical and cross-sectional household survey, developed in the urban area in the countryside of Minas Gerais, from 2017 to 2018. A total of 796 older adults were assessed using validated instruments, such as Geriatric Depression Scale: short form, Brazilian Questionnaire for Functional and Multidimensional Assessment, International Physical Activity Questionnaire, Instrument for Assessing Attitude Towards Taking Medications. Multiple logistic regression (p<0.05) was used.
Results:
negative self-perceived health was associated with low income and education. As for self-care in health, being physically active associated with the age group 60 |-| 79 years and higher education.
Conclusions:
sociodemographic variables such as sex, age group, income, education, marital status, housing arrangement were related to health status and self-care practice.

Objective:
To identify nursing diagnoses and conditioning factors of self-care in older adults with diabetes mellitus, in the light of Orem’s Theory of Self-Care.
Methods:
Exploratory, descriptive study with a qualitative approach, conducted with the theoretical framework of Orem’s Theory of Self-Care. It was developed with 12 older people with diabetes, in a country’s southern municipality, between October and November 2019. For data collection, it was used individual interviews and focus groups. The data was submitted to thematic and content analysis directed to taxonomy II of NANDA International.
Results:
Twenty nursing diagnoses related to universal self-care requirements and health deviations were identified. All diagnoses were anchored in the supportive-education nursing system.
Final considerations:
The development of the disease and the consequences of chronic hyperglycemia were poorly recognized by the elderly, interfering with low adherence to self-care practices and disease control.

Objectives:
to map the use of Nursing models and theories utilized as theoretical references in graduate academic Nursing research in Brazil.
Methods:
bibliometrics, performed in the Theses and Dissertations database of the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel, in November, 2020. Data analysis was performed using simple descriptive statistics and lexical analysis, performed using the software: IRAMUTEQ.
Results:
the 50 selected studies were from the field of Nursing, 15 (30%) of which were theses and 35 (70%) were dissertations. 13 Nursing theories and models were identified, used as theoretical references, highlighting Roy’s Adaptation Model in 10 (20%) of the researches. Final Considerations: the study found a great diversity in the use of nursing theories and models as a theoretical framework, which allowed us to identify the areas most researched by nurses and confirmed their application in different specialties and health contexts.

Objective:
To reflect on the role of Brazilian nursing during the COVID-19 pandemic, considering as a historical landmark the bicentenary of the birth of Florence Nightingale, a precursor of modern nursing, celebrated in 2020.
Method:
Theoretical-reflective study, based on Florence Nightingale’s environmental theory through a literature review, carried out in international and national virtual news from different sources and added to the authors’ experiences related to the pandemic.
Results:
It was possible to identify the weaknesses experienced by nurse practitioners as to contagion by COVID-19, the routine of exposure to risks, the lack of adequate protection in many scenarios, the high rates of illness, and also deaths that occurred in this profession.
Final considerations:
Florence Nightingale’s Environmental Theory describes the importance of the adequacy of the work environment. It also emphasizes the value of this professional for contemporary nursing and the redefinition of this professional category during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Objective:
To develop a middle range nursing theory of impaired knowledge in individuals with heart failure.
Methods:
Descriptive study of the cross type developed through the theoretical-causal validity method, which used six steps for theory building: Definition of the construction approach; Definition of theoretical-conceptual models; Definition of main concepts; Development of a pictorial scheme; Construction of propositions; and Establishment of causal relations and evidence for practice.
Results:
Twenty-four articles were found, which identified two attributes, eight antecedents, and seven consequences, which gave rise to the pictogram, which schematized the concepts by relating them to cardiac physiology. Finally, 11 propositions and four causal relationships were created.
Conclusion:
The constructed theory enables a targeted driving of nurses’ clinical judgment regarding impaired knowledge in individuals with heart failure, culminating in individualized interventions to improve quality of life.

Objectives:
to analyze nurses’ role in assisting patients in palliative care, with emphasis on the spiritual dimension, in the light of Theory of Human Caring.
Methods:
this is an exploratory, qualitative study, carried out in a hospital in João Pessoa, Paraíba, between August and December 2019, with 10 nurses. For data collection, semi-structured interviews were used. For analysis, we opted for content analysis.
Results:
the spiritual dimension of care is contemplated by several religious and spiritual practices. These are respected and encouraged by nurses, although there is difficulty in providing care for the spiritual dimension.
Final Considerations:
nurses have attitudes consistent with Jean Watson’s Theory and apply the Caritas Process elements during assistance to patients’ spiritual dimension in palliative care.

Objective:
to develop a mid-range theory for nursing diagnosis ineffective peripheral tissue perfusion in patients with diabetic foot.
Method:
the theory construction was carried out in six stages: approach definition; theoretical-conceptual model definition; definition of the main concepts; pictogram development; construction of propositions and establishment of causal relationships evidence for practice.
Results:
twelve etiological factors and 22 clinical indicators were included in the theory, some of which were not listed in NANDA International (Inc.) and others were adapted to better characterize patients with diabetic foot. A pictogram was constructed and eight propositions were established to verify causal relationships and evidence for practice.
Conclusion:
medium-range theory made it possible to broaden the concepts and demonstrate the causal relationships between the elements of ineffective peripheral tissue perfusion, providing subsidies to minimize gaps in knowledge and assist clinical nursing practice.

Objective:
To reflect on the environment of the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit in the light of the Florence Nightingale’s Environmental Theory.
Methods:
A theoretical-reflexive essay of constructs originated from the final work of a discipline related to the Florence Nightingale’s Environmental Theory and the current legislation regarding the environment of the unit.
Results:
The elements “lighting,” “noise,” “colors, and varieties of objects,” “location of nursing units,” and “odors” follow Florence Nightingale’s assumptions while the elements “ventilation,” “spacing between beds,” “furniture” underwent adaptations to suit the current structure of the unit.
Final considerations:
The environmental theory is a milestone in the history of nursing. Despite the transformations, such as the emergence of intensive care units and the permanence of the family in these units, the nursing team must maintain Florence Nightingale’s concern about the environment influencing the health/disease process and promoting an adequate environment for the care of the child and his family.
