Objectives:
to identify publications about the applicability of the Symptom Management Theory in nursing care to pediatric, adolescent, adult and elderly patients.
Methods:
scoping review following the steps: definition of the objective, research question and inclusion criteria; search, selection and analysis of publications; synthesis of results. The search occurred in the VHL, SciELO, CAPES and PubMed Journals Portal bases, contemplating publications between 1994 and July 2020.
Results:
out of 3,286 studies, ten were selected, published between 2008 and 2019. They described the relationships between the participants and the domains (person, environment, health and disease), components (symptom experience, management strategies, results) and presented strategies for symptom management.
Conclusions:
the Symptom Management Theory was considered applicable to the participants of the studies and to nursing care. It was concluded that understanding the interaction of these elements is essential to plan actions aimed at controlling symptoms effectively.

Objectives:
To analyze the abstracts that relate nursing to the Theory of Culture Care Diversity and Universality, published in the annals of the main national scientific events in the category, over a 12-year period.
Methods:
documental research carried out in the annals of the Brazilian Nursing Congress and the National Nursing Research Seminar. Data collection took place from July/2018 to June/2019 using a form. Data was analyzed using descriptive statistics and content analysis.
Results:
99 studies were analyzed, and three categories emerged: Cultural diversity, emic perspective, and cultural context: possibilities for applying the theory; Incongruencies and peculiarities of the care sectors: limitations of the application of the theory; Knowledge production to improve care: implications for professional nursing practice.
Final Considerations:
the investigated scientific production enabled the construction of knowledge of cultural aspects related to nursing care and showed similarities and variations in care practices.

Objective:
Identify the theoretical concepts that have been used in the context of nursing care for hospitalized children.
Methods:
Scoping review was carried out according to the PRISMA-ScR methodology. The research limitations included: primary studies dealing with the use of theoretical concepts of nursing in the provision of care to hospitalized children, access in full text, in Portuguese or English and published between 2000 and 2019. Research was carried out on grassroots platforms (EBSCOhost, PubMed, SciELO and Web of Science), gray literature and in the bibliography of selected articles.
Results:
21 studies were found and 10 theoretical conceptions of nursing were identified, with family-centered care being the most used.
Final considerations:
The variability of the identified theoretical conceptions is emphasized, with no evidence to support the use of one in detriment of the other. A more integrative theoretical conception, which adds care centered both on the family and the child, emerges as a research trend.

Objective:
to reflect on Florence Nightingale’s legacy and describe her contributions to critical holistic thinking in nursing.
Methods:
this is a theoretical reflection, for which scientific productions on Florence Nightingale’s environmental theory, as published in national and international journals, were based.
Results:
Florence Nightingale’s philosophy and teachings emphasize that the nurse must use her brain, heart and hands to create healing environments to care for the patient’s body, mind and spirit. Nursing, since the time of Nightingale, has been building the holistic paradigm, in all schools of thought, with a view to a humanistic approach to the human being in their indivisible relationship with the environment.
Final considerations:
Florence’s contributions to holistic critical thinking in nursing are evident, constituting nurses’ differential in clinical practice.

Objective:
to report the experience of professors and students of a graduate course on nursing care in coping with the new coronavirus (COVID-19) based on Self-Care Theory.
Method:
the active methodologies used were a literature search and seminar presentations, with an understanding of Orem's theoretical concepts: health; man; self-care; universal, developmental and health deviation requirements; self-care activities; self-care deficits; the required therapeutic demand; nursing systems. The pandemic was considered a health deviation that requires critical thinking and nursing care planning. Methodological frameworks to classify nursing diagnoses, interventions, and outcomes were used.
Results:
for each health deviation, nursing systems were identified; self-care deficits, diagnoses; actions, interventions; and the form of assessment, outcomes.
Final considerations:
theoretical-practical reflections of the academic context support nursing care planning.

Objective:
To reflect on the relationship and importance of the environmental theory regarding practices for promotion, prevention, and treatment of COVID-19.
Methods:
A theoretical-reflexive study about the COVID-19 pandemic in light of the environmental theory proposed by Florence Nightingale.
Results:
It is observed that the application of the theoretical foundations proposed by the environmental theory is related to the current practices used in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
Final Considerations:
It is believed that the theoretical basis is fundamental for the critical-reflexive training of the nursing professional, for the consolidation of Nursing as a science; therefore, it could provide a foundation in nowadays battle against the pandemic.

Objectives:
to understand nurses’ perceptions about Imogene King’s concepts on CMIOS and its association with caring for patients with hypertension in Primary Health Care.
Methods:
a qualitative interventionist research with Family Health Strategy nurses who care for patients with hypertension at Primary Health Care in Maracanaú-CE. A focus group was held with seven nurses, in two audio-recorded and transcribed meetings, to analyze the production of meanings based on discursive practices.
Results:
the categories personal system, interpersonal system, and social system emerged referring to the potentialities and difficulties found both for understanding concepts, but also in the interaction with oneself, with hypertensive patients and health organization, with a view to adequate care for hypertensive patients.
Final Considerations:
it was verified the understanding of nurses’ knowledge in relation to King’s concepts, associating its application in the context of care for patients with hypertension.

Objectives:
to analyze the philosophical, theoretical and methodological conceptions of the Theory of Praxic Intervention in Nursing in Collective Health by professors at a federal university, aiming at structuring a reference proposal for teaching nursing care.
Methods:
Convergent Assistance Research, with 17 teachers, gathered in convergence groups for instrumentalization and production about the referential.
Results:
the focus was primarily on issues considered preliminary to the theoretical and philosophical deepening of theory; and then a theoretical-methodological essay on historicity and dialectics was developed for teaching in nursing care.
Final Considerations:
when electing Theory of Praxic Intervention in Nursing in Collective Health, the potential of the referential to make operational, in the teaching of assistance, the assumptions of historicity and dialectics operational, founding new conceptions for care. This decision represents a paradigmatic challenge exposing weaknesses in the formation related to its Cartesian origin and its limitations regarding intrinsic philosophical complexity.
