Objective:
To analyze the content of the conceptual and operational definitions of the related factors, associated condition and defining characteristics of the nursing diagnosis “Excess fluid volume (00026)” in hemodialysis renal patients.
Methods:
Methodological study, of the content analysis type, with 49 specialists who reached a score equal to or greater than 5, according to Fehring’s criteria. Thirty elements were evaluated for relevance, clarity, and precision. The experts’ profile was analyzed using descriptive statistics, and the binomial test analyzed the agreement between them in relation to the terms.
Results:
The main validated indicators were “Oliguria”, “Anasarca”, “Paroxysmal nocturnal dyspnea”, “Dyspnea”, “Change in blood pressure”, “Edema”, “Ingestion greater than elimination” and “Increased central venous pressure”. This shows that this phenomenon is present in this population.
Conclusion:
29 elements were validated for relevance, clarity, and precision. This result clarifies the terms that make up the phenomenon, providing a better understanding of the concept; and assists in the accurate diagnostic proposition.

Objective:
to analyze the accuracy of the defining characteristics of hypothermia in patients on hemodialysis.
Methods:
a diagnostic accuracy study was assembled within a cross-sectional study with 124 patients from two dialysis centers. A latent class model was used for data analysis.
Results:
the nursing diagnosis hypothermia was present in 13 (10.48%) study participants. The most prevalent defining characteristics were hypoxia (100%), decrease in blood glucose level (83.1%), hypertension (65.3%), piloerection (45.2%), and skin cool to touch (41.1%). The defining characteristics acrocyanosis (99.96%) and cyanotic nail beds (99.98%) had a high sensitivity. Acrocyanosis (91.8%), skin cool to touch (64.8%), and peripheral vasoconstriction (91.8%) had high specificity.
Conclusion:
specific and sensitive indicators of hypothermia work as good clinical indicators for confirming this diagnosis in patients on hemodialysis. The study findings can assist nurses in their clinical reasoning for a correct inference of hypothermia.

Objective:
To assess the association between the comfort level of chronic hemodialysis patients with sociodemographic and clinical variables using the General Comfort Questionnaire.
Method:
Cross-sectional study, with a quantitative approach, considering 180 chronic hemodialysis renal patients. Two instruments were used: one for sociodemographic and clinical variables; and the General Comfort Questionnaire, Brazilian version. Mann-Whitney’s, Kruskal-Wallis’s, and Spearman’s tests were used for data analysis.
Results:
The overall comfort level of patients was 78.16%. The socio-cultural domain presented the lowest level of comfort and the psychospiritual the highest level. Some variables were significantly associated with the domains, such as marital status, education, and considering oneself to be anxious.
Conclusion:
In the four domains of comfort, it was possible to identify patients’ needs, such as the presence and intensity of pain, anxiety, constipation and type of access, making it possible to guide nurses in the systematization of care and improve the comfort of these patients.

Objective:
to compare the quality of life (QoL) of patients under dialysis and after kidney transplant; correlate the QoL of transplant patients to sociodemographic, morbid and spirituality/religiosity variables.
Method:
prospective study with a quantitative approach, with a sample of 27 patients who underwent peritoneal dialysis or dialysis undergoing kidney transplant. QoL and spirituality were assessed by the KDQOL-SF and WHOQOL-SRPB tools, being correlated with sociodemographic and economic variables.
Results:
the dimensions of total mental component, kidney disease effects and kidney disease burden showed significant improvement in the post-transplant period, with p <0.0004. There was a significant correlation between four dimensions of spirituality and seven dimensions of QoL; p ranged from 0.04 to 0.006.
Conclusion:
there was a significant improvement in QoL in the post-transplant period. The dimensions of spirituality: wholeness and integration, spiritual connection, wonder and inner peace were positively correlated with seven dimensions of QoL.

Objective:
To evaluate the effectiveness of vitamin D supplementation as protection factor against infection of patients with chronic kidney disease on conservative treatment.
Method:
Retrospective cohort study carried out between 2013 and 2016 in the Conservative Treatment Outpatient Clinics (Ambulatório de Tratamento Conservador) of the Hypertension and Kidney Hospital (Hospital do Rim e Hipertensão) of the Universidade Federal de São Paulo. Data on sociodemographic factors, comorbidity, infection episodes and use or nonuse of vitamin D supplementation for at least 6 months were collected from medical records. The primary outcomes considered in both groups were: presence or absence of infection anywhere on the body (bloodstream, urinary, respiratory and surgical sites).
Results:
A total of 263 patients were included and those who received (n=43) vitamin D had 59% less chance of developing infections (OR=0.41; 95%CI; 0.15-0.99), when compared to those who did not receive.
Conclusion:
Vitamin D supplementation was a protective factor against infections of all causes.
