Objectives:
to assess the operationalization of Primary Health Care in the COVID-19 pandemic, according to Primary Care Assessment Tool: PCATool-Brasil attributes, from physicians’ and nurses’ perspective.
Methods:
a cross-sectional study, carried out with 99 physicians and nurses from Basic Health Units in a state in northeastern Brazil, with the aid of the adapted instrument PCATool-Brasil.
Results:
Essential Score was classified as high performance (6.6) and General Score as low performance (6.5). First Contact Access, Care Integration, and Community Guidance scores were <6.6. The best performances were attributed to the Longitudinality, Comprehensiveness and Family Guidance services (scores>6.6).
Conclusions:
the attributes of Primary Health Care, in general, showed values above or close to the cut-off point in the assessment. These data can support strategies for local and national managers to strengthen Primary Health Care in the COVID-19 pandemic and future public health emergencies.

Objectives:
to identify whether implementing a supplementary Primary Health Care (PHC) system makes it possible to reduce care costs for older adults with heart diseases.
Methods:
a retrospective cohort of 223 patients with heart disease aged ≥ 60 years. Data were obtained from medical records and cost databases, assessed for a period of one year before and after PHC implementation. The results were expressed as mean absolute frequencies for number of hospitalizations and as average annual expenses expressed in dollars (US$) in relation to cost data.
Results:
there was a reduction in hospitalization expenses after implementing supplementary PHC (p=0.01) and a decrease in the frequency of hospitalizations for the entire sample (p=0.006). There was a reduction in the frequency of consultations at the Emergency Room among frail older adults (p=0.011).
Conclusions:
there was a reduction in hospitalization costs and frequency of visits to the Emergency Room after supplementary PHC.

Objectives:
to analyze the incidence of preventable adverse events related to health care in adult patients admitted to public hospitals in Brazil.
Methods:
observational, analytical, retrospective study based on medical records review.
Results:
medical records from 370 patients were evaluated, 58 of whom had at least one adverse event. The incidence of adverse events corresponded to 15.7%. Adverse events were predominantly related to healthcare-related infection (47.1%) and procedures (24.5%). Regarding the adverse event severity, 13.7% were considered mild, 51.0% moderate, and 35.3% severe. 99% of adverse events were classified as preventable. Patients admitted to the emergency room had a 3.73 times higher risk for adverse events.
Conclusions:
this study’s results indicate a high incidence of avoidable adverse events and highlight the need for interventions in care practice.

Objetivos:
describir el proceso de implementación de Lean Six Sigma para mejorar el proceso de alta en una unidad de cuidados intensivos brasileña.
Métodos:
estudio prospectivo siguiendo el método de desarrollo de proyectos denominado DMAIC (Define-Measure-Analyze-Improve-Control). Este método consta de cinco fases, a saber: definición del proyecto, medición del punto de partida y recolección de datos, análisis de resultados, mejora en los procesos y control estadístico.
Resultados:
la aplicación de la metodología Lean Six Sigma fue efectiva para mejorar el proceso de alta de la unidad de cuidados intensivos a la unidad de hospitalización. Esta mejora representó una reducción en el tiempo promedio de alta de 189 a 75 minutos, totalizando una mejora del 61%.
Conclusiones:
este artículo demuestra la efectividad de la aplicación de la metodología Lean Six Sigma para mejorar el flujo de descarga en una unidad crítica, lo que resulta en la reducción de tiempo y desperdicio.

Objectives:
to correlate depressive symptoms, attitude, and self-care of elderly people with type 2 diabetes.
Methods:
study developed with 144 elderly people with diabetes; carried out in Family Health Units. A semi-structured instrument was used to obtain data on the sociodemographic profile; the Geriatric Depression Scale (15 items), the Questionário de Atitudes Psicológicas do Diabetes [Psychological Attitudes of Diabetes Questionnaire], and the Diabetes Self-Care Activities Questionnaire (DSCA) were also used.
Results:
it was identified that 24.3% of the participants presented depressive symptoms, and 93.8% presented negative attitudes of coping. A greater adherence to self-care activities related to the practice of medication was observed. In the correlation between the scales, a negative and inversely proportional correspondence was noted between depressive symptomatology and physical activity (p=0.010) and foot care (p=0.006), likewise between attitude and foot care (p=0.009).
Conclusions:
self-care in elderly people with diabetes mellitus is influenced by depressive symptoms and negative coping attitudes.

Objectives:
to describe the Lean Six Sigma implementation process to improve the discharge process in a Brazilian health institution’s ICU.
Methods:
prospective study following the Define-Measure-Analyse-Improve-Control project development method. This method consists of five phases, namely: project definition, measurement of the starting point and data collection, analysis of results, improvement in processes, and statistical control.
Results:
applying Lean Six Sigma methodology following the Define-Measure-Analyse-Improve-Control in the discharge process from the intensive care unit to the inpatient unit was effective in improving processes. This improvement represented a reduction in the mean patient transfer time to the inpatient unit from 189 minutes to 75 minutes, representing a 61% improvement in discharge time.
Conclusions:
this article demonstrates the effectiveness of applying Lean Six Sigma methodology to improve the discharge flow in a critical unit, resulting in time and waste reduction.

Objectives:
to identify and synthesize scientific evidence on the barriers and difficulties for Pre-exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) use and compliance for HIV.
Methods:
an integrative literature review, using the MEDLINE/PubMed, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL), Academic Search Premier and Scopus (Elsevier) databases.
Results:
all (100%) the articles included identified that PrEP users experience some type of structural barrier related to health services such as long distance from the units, suboptimal logistics for taking pills and professional resistance to prescribing PrEP. Furthermore, 63.21% identified social barriers, such as stigma about sexuality and HIV, in addition to individual barriers such as alcohol use, adverse effects, and concerns about long-term toxicity.
Conclusions:
the barriers to PrEP use are multifactorial. Effective interventions are needed to support PrEP users in accessing, complying with, and retaining health services.

Objectives:
to analyze nurses’ role in assisting patients in palliative care, with emphasis on the spiritual dimension, in the light of Theory of Human Caring.
Methods:
this is an exploratory, qualitative study, carried out in a hospital in João Pessoa, Paraíba, between August and December 2019, with 10 nurses. For data collection, semi-structured interviews were used. For analysis, we opted for content analysis.
Results:
the spiritual dimension of care is contemplated by several religious and spiritual practices. These are respected and encouraged by nurses, although there is difficulty in providing care for the spiritual dimension.
Final Considerations:
nurses have attitudes consistent with Jean Watson’s Theory and apply the Caritas Process elements during assistance to patients’ spiritual dimension in palliative care.

Objective:
to elaborate and validate the content of a digital guide educational technology on Systematization of Nursing Care and Nursing Process.
Methods:
applied research of technological development, developed between 2020 and 2021, in three steps. First, a scoping review was carried out to elaborate the content. In the second step, the content was validated with 46 nurse judges selected for convenience. The minimum criterion of agreement among judges was 80%. The third step consisted of content organization and layout.
Results:
the guide content was elaborated from the Federal Nursing Council legislation, scientific articles and textbooks. Content was considered appropriate, relevant and organized by judges.
Final considerations:
the digital guide is an alternative that can contribute to the NP execution and implementation, supporting the planning and implementation of actions for quality of care.

Objectives:
to adapt and validate an instrument for classifying adult patients that emphasizes the family support network in the demand for nursing care.
Methods:
methodological study, carried out in three phases: adaptation of an instrument considering the reality of adult patients; content validation with seven experts and assessment of measurement properties (construct validity and internal consistency) with 781 hospitalized patients.
Results:
in content validation, the indicators reached the values established for the Content Validity Index (0.85-1.00). In the confirmatory factor analysis, the 11 indicators were distributed in three domains and presented average variance extracted and factor loading greater than 0.5. Composite reliability was greater than 0.7.
Conclusions:
the present study adapted and made available, with evidence of validity and reliability, an instrument for classifying adult patients that considers the family support network in the demand for nursing care.

Objectives:
to analyze nursing vulnerability through photos released by the media amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
Methods:
a documentary study, with a qualitative approach. The object of analysis were photographic images selected between January 2020 and March 2021, published by the main news portals in countries such as Brazil, the United States, France, Spain, England and Germany. Thematic categorical analysis was the method of analysis used.
Results:
we found 74 photographs that portrayed nursing professionals in different work situations. It was possible to identify stigma and social devaluation about this class’s representation and professional attribution. Moreover, we found an underrepresentation of black professionals in Brazilian portals and the man as the prominent figure in the spaces of claims.
Final Considerations:
the photographs represented an important tool for the social analysis of nursing vulnerability, favoring the unveiling of situations that may go unnoticed by nursing and society.

Objectives:
to develop an application for a mobile device for the registration of the Nursing Process by nurses of the Mobile Emergency Care Service.
Methods:
applied research with technology development based on software engineering and Apple’s Human Interface Guidelines. It had the support of an application developer and a designer. The proposal was built in four steps (scope definition, planning, prototype creation and development).
Results:
the application “Nursing APHMóvel” allows to record the steps of the Nursing Process, such as history, nursing diagnoses, outcomes and interventions with the possibility of storing the data and/or file in printable format. The technological innovation has location features, scales with automatic sum of items, touchscreen, and offline operation.
Conclusions:
it was possible to develop the application with the potential for computerized documentation of the Nursing Process by nurses working in the Mobile Emergency Care Service.

Objective:
To identify and map the technological tools of information and communication to support the teaching learning process in Nursing teaching courses.
Methods:
This is a scoping review whose search was carried out in seven databases and in grey literature. After an initial analysis of the selection, 88 texts were read integrally, and 29 made up the final sample.
Results:
Virtual learning environment and object, simulation, hypermedia, and software or cellphone applications were the tools the nursing professors used the most. Studies highlight that the application of technology was important in the teaching-learning process, since it encouraged teaching based on safe care, motivating and developing abilities/competences, supported on significant, effective, flexible, and autonomous learning.
Conclusion:
The contribution of the technology for nursing formation stands out, but it should be highlighted that its employment must be critical, reflective, based on pedagogical theories and developed by trained professors.

Objectives:
to describe the validity process of the TBApp mobile application for self-care management for people with tuberculosis linked to Primary Health Care.
Methods:
methodological research developed with ten expert judges, carried out virtually. The application was assessed in relation to content and technology quality in seven domains (objectivity; structure and appearance; relevance; functionality; reliability; usability; and efficiency), using an instrument with a Likert scale.
Results:
TBApp was considered valid, relevant, functional, reliable and effective by expert judges. The objectives, structure and presentation and relevance domains presented an overall Content Validity Index of 0.93, and the functionality, reliability, usability and efficiency domains presented characteristics and sub-characteristics values greater than 0.80.
Conclusions:
TBApp is a creative and innovative tool that can be used by people with TB and disseminated in the scientific community.

Objectives:
to evaluate the effect of educational video on newborn care to increase the knowledge of pregnant, postpartum, and family members.
Methods:
a quasi-experimental study, with pre-intervention and post-intervention evaluation with a single group. Fifty-eight pregnant, postpartum, and family members treated in basic health units and a hospital in Ceará, Brazil, participated. The study used the McNemar and binomial tests for the analysis.
Results:
after the intervention, there was an increase in the frequency of hits, from 70.82% to 92.97%. Most of the questions presented a significant increase of hits (p < 0.05) with an emphasis on sleeping position, drying of clothes, free demand for breastfeeding, and things to avoid (such as accessories in the sleeping place and talc in diaper change).
Conclusions:
the educational video was effective to participants in acquiring knowledge on the care of newborns and can assist in health education activities carried out by nurses.

to comprehend the perception of undergraduate nursing students about learning to care for the child and family through clinical simulation.
Methods:
this is a qualitative research conducted with ten nursing students through semi-structured interviews. Data were analyzed through content analysis.
Results:
data were organized into two categories: “learning a new way to learn,” in which students describe their experiences during the simulation, and “learning a new way to care,” in which they reflect on learning through simulation.
Final considerations:
we believe that clinical simulation practice in teaching should be encouraged because of the benefits it can offer to the students, faculty, patients and their families. However, we recommend further studies to validate scenarios of child and family healthcare.

Objective:
to assess the conformity of nursing care concerning best evidence in transitional care from hospital to home for older people.
Methods:
a project to implement best evidence based on the model proposed by the Joanna Briggs Institute in surgical clinic of a university hospital with older people, caregivers or family members, and nurses, between July and August 2019. Eight evidence-based criteria have been audited through interviews, medical records and computerized system, presented in percentages.
Results:
the highest non-compliance rate found in a baseline audit was absence of continued training on transitional care and hospital discharge plan. Identifying barriers to best practices included educational programs; afterwards, there was an improvement in compliance rates in all the criteria assessed.
Final considerations:
the criteria based on audited evidence showed an increase in compliance rates with the strategies implemented, contributing to improving transitional care for older people.

to achieve the degree of saturation in study that applied the grounded theory.
Methods:
qualitative research, carried out in four Family Health Units, between June 2018 and May 2019. The data from the interviews with 30 health professionals and non-participant observation were coded in the stages: open, axial and integration.
Results:
the degree of saturation was achieved by two conceptual models – theoretical saturation and inductive thematic. Theoretical saturation was considered: the development of conceptual codes and observation, in the collection and analysis of data, when they generated new categories/subcategories or only indicated increasing instances. For thematic inductive saturation, the use of new codes based on each interview stood out.
Final Considerations:
the visual layout for the number of codes, the theoretical scope of the concepts and the delimitation of the sample groups guided the identification of the degree of saturation for the development of the conceptual body that supported the substantive theory.

Objective:
to understand the professional practice challenges in reaching the goals and objectives of the National Patient Safety Program (Programa Nacional de Segurança do Paciente).
Method:
qualitative case study, based on the Comprehensive Sociology, carried out with 31 professionals from the Patient Safety Center (Núcleo de Segurança do Paciente) and the nursing team, working in a teaching hospital. Data collection took place between May and December 2015 through interviews, observation and documentary analysis. The analysis proceeded according to the prerogatives of the Content Analysis.
Results:
three categories emerged: the prescribed reality; material resources and their impact on care; and human resources related to the reality.
Final considerations:
challenges to safe professional practice are caused by inadequate physical structure, insufficient physical and human resources, but mainly invade the transition from the prescriptive reality scope.

Objective:
to characterize nurses graduated from the School of Nursing of the University of São Paulo, from 2006 to 2012; verify their entry, facilitating factors and difficulties of these graduates in the labor market and to consider their skills and competences in the world of work.
Method:
an exploratory, descriptive study with a qualitative approach.
Results:
out of 505 graduates, 172 (34.1%) participated in the research. Entry into the labor market was mainly via public hospital institutions, in the SE of Brazil, in the caregiving sectors. The greater part remained from one to two years in their first job. Most agreed that they were prepared to meet the health needs of the population. Furthermore, they had been encouraged to seek systematic and continuous improvement in a critical, reflexive and creative way, while combining technical-scientific knowledge and personal skills.
Conclusion:
the results show that the University of São Paulo has been preparing nurses for work in the labor market, in accordance with the provisions of the National Curricular Guidelines.
