Objective:
to understand the family dynamics in face of the reality of the elderly living alone.
Method:
study of qualitative approach with theoretical reference of symbolic interactionism that involved interviews with families. Data were analyzed by thematic analysis.
Results:
six families participated in the study. The discourse analysis originated the following categories: The family respecting their decision making; The family organizing itself to the process of living alone after the age of 80 years; The family experiencing the freedom of living alone.
Conclusion:
in this study, it was possible to identify the facilitation of the possibility of living alone with preparation and agreements between the family during the family life cycle, leading to the feeling of freedom and quality of life of all members. Nursing, as a science responsible for elaborating care strategies, should work together with families to assist in the planning of care plans based on the individual social reality of the family.

Objective:
to reflect on nursing education, taking into account the principles of complex thinking proposed by Morin.
Method:
reflection based on the principles of the complexity theory by Edgar Morin.
Results:
the application of complexity in teaching proposes an emancipatory education based on questioning and social transformation. It comprises the education of nurses who interact with others as a characteristic of their work. It is necessary to prepare students to develop critical and reflective attitudes and actions to overcome the fragmentation and linearity of knowledge.
Conclusion:
nursing care has been based on a reductionist assistance, reflecting the Cartesian model. Thus, nursing education seeks to comprise shared knowledge and experiences so that no subject or professional overpowers another, accepting the uniqueness of professionals and patients.

Objective:
to understand the perceptions of hope for people with depression in the context of a therapy group.
Methods:
using a qualitative case study approach, a semi-structured in-depth interview and a self-report questionnaire were conducted with seven women with depression integrated in a therapy group at a Portuguese day-care psychiatric unit. Data collection and analysis used triangulation of sources.
Results:
the participants evidenced hope founded on the positive experiences of the past with a strong affiliation component. Hope management is done fundamentally through the interpersonal relationships established between the members of the group, based on communicational patterns that are established on a regular basis, mediated by the group therapist.
Conclusion:
the therapy group functioned towards the reinforcement of hope in people who experience depression, and it works as a motivation to manage the implications of illness in the participants’ life and health project.

Objective:
To develop and test the content validity of the “Knowledge and Attitudes on Assessing Degrees of Physical Disability in Leprosy” instrument.
Methods:
Methodological study carried out between January and May 2019 in three stages: item generation, analysis of aggregated redundancy to the composition, and content validation, using the Delphi technique.
Results:
In the first evaluation, a relevance of ≥ 0.80 stood out for all items, except for 2.8, which was excluded. To make the instrument clearer, the sequence was renumbered from one to 32; 2.6, 3.1, and 15 were reformulated, and the others underwent modifications, except for ten and 13. After the second evaluation, all items obtained Content Validity Index > 0.90 and Kappa = 1.00.
Conclusion:
The instrument has an excellent content validity; it is inferred that it is adequate to measure the knowledge and attitudes of professionals in the assessment of physical disabilities in leprosy.

Objective:
to verify the difference of mean or median in the scores of family functionality and burden of family caregivers of people with mental disorders.
Methods:
cross-sectional study carried out in a Psychosocial Care Center with 61 family caregivers. Instruments were used for sociodemographic characterization, care process, Family Apgar Index and Family Burden Interview Schedule. Mean/median difference tests were adopted.
Results:
women with mental disorders and the presence of children in the home decreased the median of the family Apgar score. Difficulty in the relationship between caregiver/user, nervousness/tension, physical aggression and agitation of patients increased the global average of subjective burden.
Conclusions:
nursing interventions to reduce burden and promote family functionality should prioritize caregivers of women with mental disorders, assist them in managing troublesome behaviors and raising awareness of family nucleus to co-responsibility for caring for sick people, especially in families with children who demand daily care.

Objective:
to understand the perception of alumni from a nursing course which uses active learning methods about their insertion in the job market.
Methods:
descriptive and exploratory study with a qualitative approach, carried out through 17 interviews with alumni from 2012 and 2014. The analysis took place using Dialectic Hermeneutics, as subsidized by the theoretical framework of the Theory of Complexity.
Results:
the statements of the alumni showed aspects related to safety to act in the job market, to stimulating proactivity and initiative for learning as proposed by the active method, to difficulties in teamwork, and to the lack of experience in certain specialized fields.
Final Considerations:
there are advances and challenges marked by contradictions in the way the alumni act and think as they enter the job market, which is an inherent condition to processes of change, from the perspective of complex thinking.

Objective:
to build an educational hypermedia about nursing care at usual risk birth and to perform validation of content and appearance.
Method:
methodological research carried out following the following stages: content and planning of modules; media production and organization of tutorial units; organization of student space, tutor and communication between them; availability of hypermedia; assessment by experts in nursing and informatics; and implementation of proposed suggestions.
Results:
educational hypermedia showed to be a validated material, since it presented an optimum index of global content of 0.97 and statistical significance in the binomial test for the content and appearance.
Conclusion:
it is believed that the use of this material with undergraduate students in nursing will contribute to the quality of obstetric care, considering that it is an illustrated technology capable of favoring teaching-learning about normal humanized childbirth.

Objective:
To identify the prevalence of xerostomia in women undergoing chemotherapy for breast cancer.
Method:
Prospective cohort with 27 women who underwent up to 16 sessions of intravenous chemotherapy. Data collection was performed at the outpatient clinic of a university hospital in the city of São Paulo, where two forms were applied before the start of treatment and the Xerostomia Inventory before and after each chemotherapy session.
Results:
Complaints of dry mouth were present in 48.1% of women before chemotherapy, and they were approximately 28 times more likely to develop dry mouth during treatment. It was observed that the use of antiemetics contributed to the occurrence of xerostomia, and the anti-ulcerous were presented as a protective factor.
Conclusion:
The study identified both a high prevalence of xerostomia regardless of the chemotherapy used and the need to create protocols to improve the quality of life of these patients.

Objective:
To describe the daily activities performed by children from 6 to 12 years of age incomplete and analyze children’s behavior during social distancing in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Methods:
Cross-sectional study with children in a learning stage living in Brazil. The data were collected via online form. Fisher’s exact test was applied to analyze the association of categorical variables with child behavior; when significant, it was used the odds ratio. It was considered results considered statistically significant those presenting values of p < 0.05.
Results:
Data from 530 children were analyzed: 50.3% female, 71.3% from the Southeast Region, 73% in fulltime social distancing, 52% presented anxiety, which was significantly associated with changes in sleep and appetite.
Conclusion:
The results indicate the need for parents/caretakers to stimulate moments for the child to express themselves, not minimizing their feelings and providing emotional support to mitigate the negative impact of these feelings on the child’s mental and physical health.

Objective:
To evaluate stress, and to associate it with sociodemographic and clinical aspects of nurses from the Mobile Emergency Care Service.
Method:
This is an observational, cross-sectional and quantitative study conducted with 123 nurses, who answered a questionnaire to assess sociodemographic and clinical variables, and the Job Stress Scale, which evaluates stress in the workplace.
Results:
The results indicated that most of them were women, 20 to 40 years old, married, without another employment bond and with specialization course. They had low control and low demand at work and performed a passive work. Women reported passive work and high stress levels, while men were equally divided in active and passive work with low stress levels.
Conclusion:
Passive work is harmful to health and it is related to lack of autonomy, decision-making, and social support. It may lead to reduced ability to solve problems faced in daily work routine.

Objective:
To discuss the methods employed to evaluate the effectiveness of clinical surface cleaning and disinfection (C&D).
Method:
This is a theoretical reflection based on scientific studies and the experience of the authors. Knowledge and current gaps, the need for further studies, and practical application of the methods were approached.
Results:
There are four main methods used to evaluate the effectiveness of clinical surface C&D: visual inspection, fluorescent markers, microbiological cultures, and adenosine triphosphate (ATP) bioluminescence. The first two are used to evaluate the process and to predict adherence to protocols by the staff, and the last two are employed to evaluate the results, therefore being the most relevant to assess the risk of infection.
Final considerations:
The ideal method was not found, because all of them showed limitations. There is a need for strategies to optimize the precision of these methods.
