Objective:
to understand the family dynamics in face of the reality of the elderly living alone.
Method:
study of qualitative approach with theoretical reference of symbolic interactionism that involved interviews with families. Data were analyzed by thematic analysis.
Results:
six families participated in the study. The discourse analysis originated the following categories: The family respecting their decision making; The family organizing itself to the process of living alone after the age of 80 years; The family experiencing the freedom of living alone.
Conclusion:
in this study, it was possible to identify the facilitation of the possibility of living alone with preparation and agreements between the family during the family life cycle, leading to the feeling of freedom and quality of life of all members. Nursing, as a science responsible for elaborating care strategies, should work together with families to assist in the planning of care plans based on the individual social reality of the family.

Objective:
to reflect on nursing education, taking into account the principles of complex thinking proposed by Morin.
Method:
reflection based on the principles of the complexity theory by Edgar Morin.
Results:
the application of complexity in teaching proposes an emancipatory education based on questioning and social transformation. It comprises the education of nurses who interact with others as a characteristic of their work. It is necessary to prepare students to develop critical and reflective attitudes and actions to overcome the fragmentation and linearity of knowledge.
Conclusion:
nursing care has been based on a reductionist assistance, reflecting the Cartesian model. Thus, nursing education seeks to comprise shared knowledge and experiences so that no subject or professional overpowers another, accepting the uniqueness of professionals and patients.

Objectives:
to analyze nurses’ professional militancy in the institutionality field, presented by the printed media from Bahia State in the 1970s and 1980s.
Methods:
a historical and qualitative research under Social History’s perspective, whose data source was the newspaper A Tarde. The temporal cut-off encompasses milestones such as professional body restructuring and creation.
Results:
the Associação Brasileira de Enfermagem democratization movement was reported in a superficial way, highlighting the struggle for power spaces. With respect to Conselhos Federal e Regional de Enfermagem daBahia, the newspaper notified creation and function of bodies, however, there was no visibility to the newspaper’s performance. Concerning the union, there was political fragility of nurses against the creation and union participation in the fight for labor rights.
Final Considerations:
organization of political action occurred from isolated groups mobilization of professionals who were already traveling in political spaces, not the large mass of professionals.

Objectives:
to understand the experience of rural families living with advanced cancer, from Family Management Style Framework’s perspective.
Methods:
a qualitative research conducted in seven cities of the northern of state of Rio Grande do Sul in homes of 11 families (27 people). Data collection took place in 2014, using the genogram and narrative interview. Analysis followed Family Management Style Framework’s theoretical model.
Results:
the results were organized into three categories based on conceptual components of the referred model: no more normal life: situation definition; attempt to reconcile care and work: management behavior; imminence of the finitude of life: perception of consequences.
Final Considerations:
living in rural context gives families specific ways of dealing with advanced cancer. Understanding the movements undertaken by rural families throughout the experience can guide nursing professionals in planning interventions collaborating with this population’s health.

Objectives:
to analyze predictive factors for the incidence of complications related to peripheral venous catheters in children and adolescents with cancer.
Methods:
a longitudinal follow-up study, conducted at a pediatric oncology clinic unit of a hospital in Bahia, with 333 peripheral venous catheters inserted in 77 children and 26 adolescents. Data collection took place between April 2015 and December 2016 through direct observation of peripheral intravenous catheter insertion, medical record data collection and daily observation of the puncture site.
Results:
the incidence of complications was 18.6%. The modeling of the variables confirmed that the risk factors for complications in children/adolescents with cancer were: prolonged peripheral intravenous therapy (p=0.002), history of complications (p=0.000), non-irritating/vesicant medications (p=0.003) and vesicant solutions (p=0.000).
Conclusions:
the goal has been achieved. Results can contribute to the theoretical, practical and social context.

Objectives:
to compare the effectiveness of the decentralized automated drug dispensing system with pockets.
Methods:
an effectiveness study based on a systematic review guided by the question: for patients admitted to hospital units, is the use of automated drug dispensing effective for reducing medication errors when compared to manual unit dose dispensing? The evidence was evaluated by the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation and the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses instrument, used in the report.
Results:
the sample was composed of 15 studies and none of them directly compared both technologies; however, the meta-analysis showed that there is no difference in effectiveness between them [OR 1.03 95%CI (0,12 – 8,99)].
Conclusions:
the conclusion is that the recommendation in favor of the automated dispensing system is weak.

Objectives:
to analyze the systems and signs in the constitution of militant nurses.
Methods:
a historical and qualitative research based on oral history carried out with 11 nurses who had been working in the professional field since 1980. Data collected from semi-structured interviews were organized into NVivo software 10, being analyzed through dialectical hermeneutics.
Results:
systems and signs are systems that allow us to use senses, symbols or meaning to objectify and subjectivate the subject. The revealed senses were categorized and divided into improper, religious, heroic, communist, and socially involved.
Conclusions:
militancy signs are convergent with what is put in national and international literature. The difference found was in the heroic sense and implicated with the social. Militant is almost never associated with positive aspects. An individual who builds himself as a political being empowers himself as a social being, making knowledge of power, generating a break in traditional models.

Objective:
to describe the theoretical construction process of nursing process support documents in COVID-19 care scenarios.
Methods:
an experience report of the joint activity of the Brazilian Nursing Process Research Network (Rede de Pesquisa em Processo de Enfermagem) composed of Higher Education and Health Institution researchers in Brazil.
Results:
five instruments were organized collectively, involving the elements of nursing practice (nursing diagnoses, outcomes and interventions) in assistance for community; for patients (with suspected or mild, moderate, and critical COVID-19 and residents in Nursing Homes); for nursing workers’ health support, also subsidizing registration and documentation during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Final considerations:
valuing the phenomena manifested by families/communities, patients and health professionals is essential for early detection, intervention, and prevention of diseases.

Pregnancy and childbirth are life-changing events for women, but during the new coronavirus pandemic, fear and uncertainty have taken on an unprecedented dimension in the negative way that many pregnant women have anticipated and experienced childbirth.
Final considerations:
The current period has accentuated a chronic problem: a paternalistic system of health institutions in the approach to childbirth, dense with additional levels of fear in pregnant women. In this context, addressing the fear of childbirth means not giving up the promotion of safe and positive birth experiences for women.

Objective:
To investigate in the literature the relation of socioeconomic factors in the incidence of the disease and other outcomes related to leprosy.
Method:
Integrative review conducted in Lilacs, Medline, Scopus databases and SciELO online library with studies from 2000 to 2016.
Results:
32 studies were included. Only studies that analyzed statistical associations of socioeconomic factors and outcomes related to leprosy were selected.
Conclusion:
Leprosy is greatly affected by the social context in which the patient is inserted, the chances of exposure to illness are the result of a set of not only individual aspects, but also of contexts or collective conditions. It is imperative for Nursing, as an essential part of the multiprofessional team entrusted with the care and surveillance of the disease, to recognize these factors to predict unfavorable outcomes and to develop new practices capable of reducing inequities.

Objective:
To evaluate the effect of educational intervention in the adherence to self-care activities and functional health literacy and numeracy in people with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
Methods:
This was a quasi-experimental study conducted in two units of the Brazilian Family Health Strategy, involving people with diabetes. Educational interventions occurred in three meetings, weekly, lasting 60 minutes on average. Data were collected using the Questionário de Autocuidado com o Diabetes, before and after the interventions.
Results:
55 people participated in the study. After the interventions, the greatest difference for a better adherence to self-care was the item “inspecting the inside of the shoes before putting them on”, with 3.29 days in the week delta at analytical level. The worst was “taking insulin shots as recommended”, with 0.00 days a week delta at basic level.
Conclusion:
Educational interventions had a positive effect on adherence to self-care and functional literacy in health.

Objectives:
to identify the scientific evidence on the development of cardiovascular and respiratory diseases due to workplace contamination by polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons.
Methods:
integrative literature review. The search for primary articles was held in October 2017 in the Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online (through Pubmed), Web of Science and Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences (LILACS).
Results:
the 16 studies analyzed showed that exposure to polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons was associated with cardiovascular diseases, such as increased blood pressure, heart rate variation, and ischemic heart disease; and respiratory disorders, such as decreased lung function, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, asthma, wheeze, coughing, pulmonary wheezing, chest tightness, effort dyspnea, and sore throat.
Conclusions:
polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons cause deleterious effects on the cardiovascular and respiratory systems through mutations and cellular inflammation, being a risk to exposed individuals.

Objective:
To assess factors associated with depression among higher education students and professionals during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Method:
quantitative study with a cross-sectional design. 550 students and professionals participated. The data were collected by means of a digital questionnaire that included Patient Health Questionnaire-9 to assess depressive symptoms.
Results:
The factors related to depression and social isolation outcomes were significantly associated with the female gender (n= 149; 37,8%; Odds Ratio OR=2,0), white (n=127; 37,2%; OR=1,60), young people (n=130; 39,4%; OR=2,0), without religion (n=70; 40,2%; OR=1,64), with financial problems (n=80; 53,0%; OR=2,40) and family problems (n=98; 47,3%; OR=1,77); who suffered violence during the quarantine (n=28; 58,3%; OR=2,33), increased the use of illicit drugs (n=16; 59,3%; OR=2,69), used sedatives without a medical prescription (n=75; 54,0%; OR=2,94), lived in conflicting relationships (n=33; 54,1%;OR=2,14), lost their job during the pandemic (n=32; 59,3%; OR=1,99) and presented symptoms of anxiety related to COVID-19 (n=155; 45,2%; OR=3,91).
Conclusion:
there is a meaningful relationship between vulnerability and adopting risk behaviors during the pandemic-imposed social isolation with depressive symptoms. We suggest that health professionals be attentive to the need to adjust their psychosocial interventions when promoting strategies when promoting strategies to mitigate the effects and risks to mental health.
