Objectives:
to reflect on theoretical framework use in nursing research.
Methods:
a theoretical-reflexive study, based on concepts and constructs pertinent to using nursing theories and other sciences, considering issues of epistemology or philosophy of science.
Results:
we presented what it is and why to do nursing research and what a theoretical framework is and why to use it, in addition to some considerations regarding theoretical framework use in nursing research, essential for constructing disciplinary knowledge, which enables the materialization of researchers’ work and the presentation of propositions resulting from investigations in and for nursing as a discipline and science.
Final Considerations:
based on a reflection based on epistemological conceptions, it is possible to affirm that a theoretical framework is the core of researchers’ thinking, delimiting a problem to be investigated and, based on it, outlining methodological strategies to be followed, supporting nursing action and thinking as discipline and science.

Objectives:
to investigate the factors associated with the mode of delivery in pregnant women in the city of Belo Horizonte.
Methods:
cross-sectional study developed with data from the study “Being born in Belo Horizonte: survey on childbirth and birth” carried out in seven maternity hospitals in Belo Horizonte – Minas Gerais. The final sample consisted of 1088 pregnant/postpartum women. In this study, to verify the magnitude of the association between the outcome variable and its possible determinants (exposure variables) logistic regression models were constructed to estimate the Odds Ratio.
Results:
increasing age, the lack of companionship, the hospital’s private financing for performing delivery and being a first-time pregnant woman increased the chance of delivery by cesarean section.
Final Considerations:
the knowledge of factors associated with the prevalence of cesarean sections can support reflections among health professionals about this surgical procedure in certain situations, especially when there are no precise clinical indications.

Objectives:
to understand the life stories and itineraries of transvestites and transsexuals in health services.
Methods:
study with a qualitative approach, anchored in the methodological framework of Oral History. Interviews were conducted and thematically analyzed.
Results:
two themes emerged: 1) gender and sexuality in life stories; and 2) the trajectories in health services. These revealed the challenges in the process of recognizing gender identity before the family and society. The reports show the dilemmas that transsexuals and transvestites face in health care, which ends up generating the removal of this population from services.
Final Considerations:
it has been demonstrated that Oral History can increase knowledge, especially about life histories and trajectories in the health services of transvestites and transsexuals; in addition, information was offered that can assist managers and health professionals in making decisions or caring for these people.
