Objectives:
to understand how healthcare waste management is developed by nursing professionals in hospitals.
Methods:
qualitative research, whose theoretical and methodological frameworks were Complexity Theory and Grounded Theory. Thirty-two nursing professionals from a public hospital in Rio de Janeiro participated in the study. Semi-structured interviews were used.
Results:
nursing affects healthcare waste management multidimensionally. Shortage of materials and work overload were identified as factors that influence professionals’ decision-making and increase the risk of improper waste disposal. The lack of knowledge on the subject also influences nursing practice. However, professionals value actions related to hazardous waste.
Final Considerations:
nursing professionals recognize themselves in healthcare waste management and understand the need to develop systemic awareness for sustainable practice.

Objectives:
to characterize the sociodemographic and psychological aspects of university students who sought psychiatric care at a Student Support Center of a Federal University and to analyze associations between mental health issues and predisposing factors.
Methods:
a retrospective analysis of 103 medical records was conducted. The statistical analysis consisted of two steps: a descriptive analysis and a predictive analysis using the Logistic Regression Model.
Results:
the majority of the students were female. Symptoms of anxiety, depression, and insomnia were the main reasons for seeking care. Students who reported having emotional difficulties that negatively impacted their studies and those who had undergone some form of health treatment showed a higher probability of experiencing anxiety symptoms. Notable correlations were found between anxiety and emotional difficulties, depression and diarrhea, and insomnia and a sedentary lifestyle.
Conclusions:
symptoms of anxiety, depression, and insomnia led students to seek psychiatric care at the university. Understanding the predisposing factors for mental health issues in university students can inform care strategies and promote academic success.

Objectives:
to analyze the editorial discourses of Acta Paulista de Enfermagem from 1988 to 2017.
Methods:
qualitative, historical, oral research, with interviews with the journal’s editors. Statements were categorized and presented in three decades, discussed from Foucault’s archaeological perspective.
Results:
seven statements presented three discourses. In the first decade, the discourse of knowledge registration and circulation presented statements of graduate studies and professional recognition. In the second decade, knowledge internationalization was added, with statements of business and editorial panopticism, selection criteria, indexing and digitalization. Finally, the discourse of shifting scientific assessment centrality was added with statements of preprint, open science, exclusive digitalization and mediatization of science.
Final Considerations:
the journal needed to adapt to form its official discourse, which made it possible, over the years, to change its initial peripheral position to a central one within scientific communication, supporting its panoptic role.

Objectives:
to identify the strategies found in the literature for increasing vaccination coverage among children in Brazil. It is justified mainly by the current scenario of falling vaccination coverage.
Methods:
systematic literature review. The search was carried out in the Pubmed (MEDLINE), Embase and Scopus databases, following the PRISMA guidelines.
Results:
initially, 4,824 results were returned. In the end, 6 studies were included for narrative synthesis using the SWiM methodology. Of these, 50% dealt with studies related to the Bolsa Família Program (PBF). The others explored strategies for approaching parents directly, Rapid Vaccination Monitoring (MRV) and the Community Health Agents Program (PACS). The PBF did not guarantee compliance with the conditionality of keeping vaccinations up to date. The MRV and PACS are effective strategies, especially because they allow active search for absentees.
Conclusions:
we conclude that more publications are needed on strategies to increase vaccination coverage among children in Brazil.

Objectives:
to analyze the relationship between the nursing practice environment and hospital sociotechnical complexity as perceived by nurses.
Methods:
a sequential explanatory mixed-methods study was conducted in a hospital in southern Brazil. The Brazilian version of the Practice Environment Scale-Nursing Work Index and the Complexity Characterization Questionnaire were administered to 132 nurses. Subsequently, semi-structured interviews were conducted with 18 participants, and the data were subjected to thematic analysis. Data integration was achieved through a connection approach.
Results:
the nursing practice environment was found to be favorable, except in the subscale concerning Staffing and Resource Adequacy, where complexity was present in the activities. The three emerging categories explained human and technical aspects related to complexity in the practice environment, quality of care, and patient safety. Unexpected variability was inversely correlated with the practice environment.
Conclusions:
the study results indicate a relationship between these constructs, with implications for the quality and the safety of care.

Objective:
To analyze the police reports filed by older adults who suffered abuse in order to identify the socio-demographic characteristics of victims and aggressors, type of violence, location, as well as to compare rates in three Brazilian cities in the period from 2009 to 2013.
Method:
Ecological study, in which 2,612 police reports registered in Police Stations were analyzed. An instrument was used to obtain data from the victim, the aggressor and the type of violence.
Results:
Psychological abuse predominated and most cases occurred in the older adults own home. In the cities of Ribeirão Preto and João Pessoa, the older adults presented similar rates for both gender. Regarding the standardized rates, in João Pessoa, there was a rise of this type of abuse in the two first years, and later there was a certain stability. In the city of Teresina, there was an increase, also observed in the city of Ribeirão Preto in the three first years, followed by a decrease.
Conclusion:
Older adults abuse is a cultural phenomenon difficult to be reported by them, since it occurs in the family context.

Objective:
To describe the process of manufacturing and validation of an educational booklet for HIV/Aids prevention in older adults
Methods:
Methodological study developed in two phases – manufacturing of the booklet and validation of the educational material by judges. The manufacturing process involved a situational diagnosis with older adults, and its result indicated gaps in the knowledge with respect to HIV/Aids. The validation process was performed by nine judges, selected by convenience. It was considered an agreement index of at least 0.80, analyzed through the content validity index.
Results:
We opted for a dialogue between two older adults divided into three categories: myths and taboos; ignorance; and prevention and importance of diagnosis. The average of the items was 0.90. The suggestions made by the judges were observed and modified for the final version.
Conclusion:
The material had relevant content for the judges, in addition to being able to be used by health professionals in the education and clarification of issues on the subject.

Objective:
To analyze the association between filial responsibility and the overload of the children when caring for their older parents.
Method:
Cross-sectional study with 100 caregiver children of older adults. Filial liability was assessed by the attitudes of the responsible child (scale of expectation and filial duty) and by care behaviors (assistance in activities of daily living, emotional and financial support, and keeping company). The overload was assessed by the Caregiver Burden Inventory. To assess the associations, the correlation coefficients of Pearson and Spearman, Kruskal-Wallis Test, and Mann-Whitney were employed. Variables that presented p-value<0.20 in the bivariate analysis were inserted in a multivariate linear regression model.
Results:
The factors associated with overload were: formal employment (p=0.002), feelings regarding family life (p<0.001), financial support (p=0.027), and assistance with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) (p<0.001).
Conclusion:
Children who were more involved with the ADLs and provided financial support showed higher levels of overload.

Objective:
to investigate what is the best anthropometric predictor of arterial hypertension among private school students.
Method:
this was a cross-sectional study with 286 students between the ages of 10 and 14 from two private schools in the city of Paranavaí, Paraná, Brazil. The following variables were analyzed: body mass index, waist circumference and blood pressure. Statistical analysis was conducted with Pearson’s partial correlation test and multivariate logistic regression, with p<0.05.
Results:
both anthropometric indicators displayed weak correlation with systolic and diastolic levels, with coeffi cients (r) ranging from 0.27 to 0.36 (p < 0.001). Multivariate analysis showed that the only anthropometric indicator associated with arterial hypertension was waist circumference (OR= 2.3; 95% CI: 1.1-4.5), regardless of age or gender.
Conclusion:
this age group, waist circumference appeared to be a better predictor for arterial hypertension than body mass index.

Objective:
this qualitative study aimed to analyze the perceptions of primary health care management nurses on the nursing process.
Method:
data were collected through interviews and analyzed by the Content Analysis proposed by Bardin’s theoretical framework.
Results:
managers recognize the importance of the nursing process, although its implementation was not a priority at the time of the interviews. A conceptual diffi culty and a lack of understanding that the implementation of the care methodology should be a cross-departmental action in the local healthcare management were clearly observed.
Conclusion:
managers should have their perspectives broadened concerning the relevance of the nursing process and the professional training. The active participation of legislative nursing bodies, local healthcare management and the federal government may open the way for the effective implementation of the nursing process.
