Objective:
To analyze the meanings attributed by nursing professionals in psychiatry to spirituality and its relationship with care.
Method:
Clinical-qualitative, with appreciation of symbolic meanings. We interviewed 18 individuals for a semi-structured script of open questions and the data were analyzed in the light of psychoanalytic hermeneutics. The discussion was undertaken with the overlap of understanding of the sacred symbol, psychological and the meaning of life.
Results:
Different spiritualities are interposed by personal restlessness and the experience of transience. Spirituality aids in social functions, personal balance and commitment to endure the anguish of transience. Among professionals, it has been shown as an ethical-combative attitude to evil forms, but there is a restriction in dealing with patients’ spirituality.
Final considerations:
The meanings pointed to the limits of human reason, resembling caregivers and patients in subjective conditions by which they avoid spirituality in psychiatry. It is suggested that spiritual attention be given to professionals.

Results:
From data analysis, three themes were selected: Living with the disease – living with the treatment and changes in lifestyle; Modifying of one’s job performance – revealing incapacity for work and the need to anticipate retirement and; Living with the stigma – the feeling of prejudice against the disease and the perceived limitations of the health services.
Final considerations:
Living with a chronic and non-transferable disease encompasses social, physical and cultural effects, along with the personal experiences of each unique individual. This study assists the improvement of care to people with the disease, because the care practice emerges from the interactions between the subjects.

Method:
A cross-sectional study with 150 HPs from a university hospital in Brazil. A descriptive analysis was conducted.
Results:
Simple hand hygiene was the preferred method of HPs, rather than hand rubbing with alcohol-based solutions. A total of 83.3% of the HPs supported the patient participation in reminding them about HH, but 48% reported that they would feel uncomfortable; 45.3%, comfortable; and 20.7% were familiar with the “Patients for Patient Safety” program.
Conclusion:
HPs showed limited knowledge about HH, opposing recommendations on the topic. The contradiction between the HPs acceptance and attitude when questioned by the patient regarding HH was revealed, reflecting a lack of knowledge about the WHO program and the need to implement educational practices in health.

Objective:
To analyze the determinants for non-vaccination against COVID-19 in pregnant women in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil.
Methods:
An epidemiological study with a cross-sectional design was conducted using data from the project titled “Childbirth and Breastfeeding in Children of Mothers Infected by SARS-CoV-2,” developed during the pandemic in the city of Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil.
Results:
The study sample consisted of 360 pregnant women, of whom 77.89% received the COVID-19 vaccine. External, social, and institutional determinants can influence lower adherence to COVID-19 vaccination, especially the absence of employment during pregnancy, difficult access to prenatal consultations, and a compromised or deficient support network.
Conclusions:
In light of this scenario, greater encouragement for health education is necessary, especially during prenatal care, resulting in lower rates of morbidity and mortality and favorable perinatal outcomes.

Objectives:
to evaluate the effectiveness of peripheral central catheterization by comparing the modified Seldinger technique and the conventional technique in critically ill newborns.
Methods:
randomized unmasked clinical trial conducted in a public children’s hospital. Participation of 111 newborns with randomized allocation, 56 in the control group (conventional technique) and 55 in the experimental group (modified Seldinger). Success and absence of complications were evaluated as primary outcomes. The pain scale, difficulty in hemostasis, procedure time and number of punctures were considered secondary outcomes.
Results:
there was no statistical significance between groups, either for success (p=0.705) or absence of complications (p=0.347). A lower pain score, improved hemostasis, increased assertiveness with fewer punctures and reduced procedure time were not observed in the experimental group.
Conclusions:
the modified Seldinger technique did not prove to be a more effective insertion technology compared to the conventional method. Brazilian Clinical Trial Registry: RBR-69vks36.

Objective:
to analyze the decision-making model adopted by nurses from the perspective of some decision-making process theories.
Method:
qualitative approach, based on action research. Semi-structured questionnaires and seminars were conducted from April to June 2012 in order to understand the nature of decisions and the decision-making process of nine nurses in position of managers at a public hospital in Southern Brazil. Data were subjected to content analysis.
Results:
data were classified in two categories: the current situation of decision-making, which showed a lack of systematization; the construction and collective decision-making, which emphasizes the need to develop a decision-making model.
Conclusion:
the decision-making model used by nurses is limited because it does not consider two important factors: the limits of human rationality, and the external and internal organizational environments that infl uence and determine right decisions.
