Objectives:
to develop a Middle-Range Theory for the Risk for imbalanced blood pressure pattern among incarcerated women.
Methods:
theoretical development study to obtain the theoretical-causal validity of the Nursing Diagnosis Risk for unstable blood pressure. The Middle-Range Theory was developed according to six stages: establishment of the approach to developing the theory; definition of the conceptual models to be later analyzed; definition of the main conceptions; a pictorial diagram; propositions; causal relationships and evidence for practice.
Results:
two attributes and 20 antecedents related to imbalanced blood pressure were identified, a pictorial diagram was developed, and nine theoretical propositions were presented.
Conclusions:
the theory developed here favors the diagnostic reasoning of nurses and contributes to planning actions to promote the cardiovascular health of incarcerated women. A new proposition for the diagnosis of Risk for unstable blood pressure was also structured with a new title, definition, and etiological factors.

Objectives:
to identify and analyze the factors that contribute to safety incident occurrence in the processes of prescribing, preparing and dispensing antineoplastic medications in pediatric oncology patients.
Methods:
a quality improvement study focused on oncopediatric pharmaceutical care processes that identified and analyzed incidents between 2019-2020. A multidisciplinary group performed root cause analysis (RCA), identifying main contributing factors.
Results:
in 2019, seven incidents were recorded, 57% of which were prescription-related. In 2020, through active search, 34 incidents were identified, 65% relating to prescription, 29% to preparation and 6% to dispensing. The main contributing factors were interruptions, lack of electronic alert, work overload, training and staff shortages.
Conclusions:
the results showed that adequate recording and application of RCA to identified incidents can provide improvements in the quality of pediatric oncology care, mapping contributing factors and enabling managers to develop an effective action plan to mitigate risks associated with the process.

Objectives:
to estimate the prevalence of depressive levels and their associated factors among transvestite and transsexual individuals.
Methods:
this cross-sectional study involved 58 participants assisted by non-governmental organizations. The Beck Depression Inventory was utilized to assess levels of depression, complemented by a sociodemographic questionnaire and a questionnaire on experiences of violence. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and Poisson regression with robust variance.
Results:
a prevalence of 27.6% (95% CI = 11.50-39.10) for moderate to severe levels of depression was observed. This prevalence was associated with being unmarried (PR = 1.19; 95% CI = 1.10-1.28) and experiencing violence in healthcare services (PR = 2.30; 95% CI = 1.10-4.81).
Conclusions:
the absence of a partner and experiences of violence in healthcare settings negatively impacted mental health, leading to an increased prevalence of depressive symptoms among transvestite and transsexual individuals. Advocating for transgender rights and providing ongoing education in health care for professionals are critical strategies in promoting the mental health of this population.

Objective:
to characterize the patients’ anxiety in the preoperative period of heart surgery.
Method:
We conducted a cross-sectional study in which 106 patients, between one and five days from the date of surgery, were interviewed using a socio-demographic questionnaire and the Beck Anxiety Inventory.
Results:
The evaluated patients accounted for 59.4% (63) in minimal anxiety and 19.8% (21) in the range considered severe, and the sample had a mean in the mild anxiety level (15.8±19.79). The women had scores (22.13±23.41) significantly (p=0.003) higher than men (10.76±14.71); as well as patients who had undergone previous heart surgery (24.4±28.05 X 13.14±15.74). There was no significant difference between older adults and younger patients, nor in terms of weight variations, presence of diabetes, or alcoholism.
Conclusion:
We reinforces the importance of nurses in recognizing the preoperative anxiety and intervene through strategies of health education and nursing visits.

Objective:
to describe the profile of drug addicts attended in a mental health service, the frequency of suicidal behavior among the participants and the associations between these two problems.
Method:
an exploratory, retrospective and descriptive study based on a quantitative approach, and data collected from medical records of patients with F10-F19 diagnoses according to the ICD-10 treated in this service in 2013. We expected to identify a possible association between independent variables (family, psychiatric and personal history) and the dependent variable (suicidal behavior).
Results:
Most of the individuals were men, single, with a low educational attainment, unemployed and aged between 15 and 45 years; 43.90% had a record of suicidal behavior.
Conclusion:
drug addicts with suicidal behavior are young people under the age of 30 presenting psychiatric comorbidity, mood disorders and/or depression, presence of family conflict, important dates coinciding with the suicidal behavior and mothers with psychiatric history.

Objective:
to monitor bacterial strains of Staphylococcus aureus that are resistant or not to oxacillin in nursing undergraduate students, with an emphasis on the process of colonization.
Method:
cross-sectional prevalence study carried out with 138 nursing students. The biological samples of the nasal cavity were collected in June 2015, by means of sterile swabs, which were subsequently submitted to confirmatory tests of catalase and coagulase. Isolated Staphylococcus aureus had their sensitivity profile determined by means of the Kirby Bauer method. Descriptive, univariate and bivariate analyses were performed.
Results:
the prevalence of Staphylococcus aureus was 21.7. Regarding the resistance profile, 24.1% of strains were resistant to oxacillin, with ampicillin being the antimicrobial with the greatest resistance (82.8%).
Conclusion:
the nasal cavity is an important bacterial flora of S. aureus in nursing students. The profile of isolated strains highlights the increase of Staphylococcus aureus resistance to antimicrobials such as oxacillin.

Objective:
to identify the factors associated with the occurrence of adverse events in critical elderly patients admitted to intensive care unit according to demographic and clinical characteristics.
Method:
a retrospective cohort study was conducted in nine units of a teaching hospital. Data were collected from medical records and from monitoring of nursing shift change. We used the t-test/Mann-Whitney, chi-square and logistic regression to test associations. Significance level of 5% was used.
Results:
out of the 315 elderly, 94 experienced events. Those who experienced events were men (60.6%) with mean age of 70.7 years, length of hospital stay of 10.6 days and survivors (61.7%). Most of the 183 events were clinical processes and procedures (37.1%). There was an association between adverse event and length of hospital stay in the unit (p=0.000; OR=1.10, 95% CI [1.06, 1.14]).
Conclusion:
the identification of associated events and factors in the elderly subsidize the prevention of these occurrences before the vulnerability of this age group.

Objective:
to understand the experience and coping strategies in relatives of drug addicts.
Method:
a study was developed with 87 relatives of addicts, registered in two Basic Health Units. The focus group was used as the study method, and content analysis was applied.
Results:
four categories were chosen: perception of relatives about the drug addiction of their family members; feelings and attitudes related to being a relative of an addict; difficulties found in the process; and, coping strategies. The findings reflected the difficulty when mentioning the subject, and the need of being cared for. Relatives believed that the addict needs to have the will to get into treatment, and they faced challenges in dealing with sporadic disappearances. They pointed to feelings of pity, impotence, disgust, hate, shame, fear of aggressiveness, and humiliation.
Conclusion:
the biggest difficulties were dealing with relapses, and the lack of public resources. Religiosity and faith, isolation and advice were used as coping strategies; ambivalence in thoughts and attitudes was demonstrated.
