Objective:
to identify the social representations about the concepts of spirituality and religion of of health teachers.
Method:
exploratory and descriptive study, based on a qualitative approach. 25 subjects participated in it. The following instruments were used to collect data: questionnaire to identify the profile; questionnaire of free association, whose inducing words were religion and spirituality, and an interview based on the scale FICA (Puchalski, 2006).
Results:
the representations about religion and spirituality, for professors, are forged around the faith in God and it gives them meaning and purpose to deal with the challenges of personal and professional living.
Conclusion:
there are still barriers that need to be overcome with a view to a comprehensive care. For this, it is essential to incorporate spirituality in the process in the curricula of health courses.

Objective:
identify the prevalence and factors associated with smoking in tobacco growers.
Method:
descriptive, cross-sectional research. Data collection occurred in 2012 through household survey and interviews, including application of a structured instrument and scale Fargeström.
Results:
there were 100 growers included, average age of 46,9 ± 10,8 years; 90(90%) married; 72(72%) white, average family composition 3,7±1,1 people; median number of children 3(1-3), and the average study time 6±2,5. The prevalence of smoking among tobacco growers was 17%, which had less education (p=0.010) and fewer people in the household (p=0.049).
Conclusion:
the prevalence of smoking among tobacco growers was higher than the national average, but the nicotine dependence was low, which can facilitate the smoking cessation process. Highlights the need to implement a program to control smoking among tobacco growers.

Objective:
to understand the meaning attributed by the family to its experience in the recovery process of a child affected by an acute disease after discharge, and to develop a theoretical model of this experience. Symbolic interactionism was adopted as a theoretical reference, and grounded theory was adopted as a methodological reference.
Method:
data were collected through interviews and participant observation with 11 families, totaling 15 interviews. A theoretical model consisting of two interactive phenomena was formulated from the analysis: Mobilizing to restore functional balance and Suffering from the possibility of a child’s readmission.
Results:
the family remains alert to identify early changes in the child’s health, in an attempt to avoid rehospitalization.
Conclusion:
the effects of the disease and hospitalization continue to manifest in family functioning, causing suffering even after the child’s discharge and recovery.

Objective:
to know the beliefs of older adults about their vulnerability to HIV/Aids, and to identify nursing diagnoses.
Method:
a field research implemented in Family Health Units, in João Pessoa, Brazil. The sample included 250 older adults of both genders with data collected from April to July of 2011. A Test of Free Word Association was applied using the term HIV/Aids. A content analysis and cross-mapping of the most frequent terms with the International Classification for Nursing Practice, 2011 were performed.
Results:
202 terms were identified in terms, with an overall frequency of 1156. Of the 202 terms, 16 were more frequent and were used to construct the nursing diagnoses. The diagnoses identified were knowledge about appropriate sexual behavior, ability for partial protection, fear of death and hopelessness.
Conclusion:
understanding these beliefs drew from knowledge about factors related to, vulnerability to HIV/Aids aimed at planning health care actions for this population segment.

Objective:
to describe the profile of 200 patients with central nervous system tumors (CNST), and the role of the nursing care.
Method:
prospective, quantitative and descriptive analysis of medical records of 200 patients with TSNC.
Results:
a total of 61% of our patients had benign CNST and 39% had malignant tumors. The extent of patient dependence, according to the Karnofsky Performance Status scale, was significantly greater for patients with malignant CNST (p < .05), indicating that these patients needed more support with their activities of daily living.
Conclusion:
patients with CNST need specialized care, with specific guidance regarding their disease and aspects of daily living after treatment. Thus, the nurse can function as a key element for the effectiveness of care provided to patients and family members with the aim of enhancing the quality of life of all those affected, directly or indirectly, by the disease.

Objective:
to identify the clinical competences of nursing assistants in a hospital organization and to understand how professional acquired these competences.
Method:
an exploratory study of a qualitative approach, performed at a private hospital in southern Brazil, through a semi-structured interview, in May and June 2013 with 20 nursing assistants.
Results:
the nursing assistantswho worked longer in the same work unit had a higher list of clinical competences. The acquisition of clinical competences occurred through interaction with other professionals; in daily nursing practice; in previous experiences and in formal learning.
Final considerations:
the identification of clinical competences and the way nursing assistants acquire these competences can be important resources for managing people, which can be used by nurse managers to better allocate these professionals and provide th e opportunity for their professional development.

Objective:
to unveil the significances of women who experience being the caregiver of their companion with cancer.
Method:
a Heidegger’s phenomenological research, performed with ten women who are caregivers of their companions with cancer in a town in the northwest of the state of Paraná, Brazil, from December 2013 to February 2014. The following guiding question was used: “How has it been for you to care for your companion with cancer?”.
Results:
from the analysis of the speeches the following ontological themes emerged: “Taking responsibility of caring for the companion with cancer”, “Learning to live with the intimacy changes” and “Learning to live with the feelings related to care”. The data revealed the wives’ sense of responsibilities for caring and the influence of feelings in the act of caring, including the impact on the couple’s intimacy.
Conclusion:
in the midst of difficulties, the feelings of affection are the driving force behind these women to continue their actions as wife-caregivers.

Objective:
to analyze the defining characteristics of the nursing diagnosis “ineffective airway clearance” in children with acute respiratory infection.
Method:
cross-sectional descriptive study, developed in two hospitals specialized in care for children. It was held a detailed respiratory evaluation of the child to identify the defining characteristics of the diagnosis under study.
Results:
a total of 249 children were evaluated, 55.8% were male and the median age was 13.76 months. Ineffective airway clearance was identified in 222 children (89.2%). The following defining characteristics presented statistically significant associations: dyspnea, expectoration, orthopnea, respiratory adventitious sounds, decreased breath sounds and ineffective cough. Decreased breath sounds, ineffective cough and respiratory adventitious sounds composed the logistic regression model.
Conclusion:
the characteristics decreased breath sounds, ineffective cough and respiratory adventitious sounds have better predictive capacity for the diagnosis “ineffective airway clearance” in children with acute respiratory infection.

Objectives:
to understand how healthcare waste management is developed by nursing professionals in hospitals.
Methods:
qualitative research, whose theoretical and methodological frameworks were Complexity Theory and Grounded Theory. Thirty-two nursing professionals from a public hospital in Rio de Janeiro participated in the study. Semi-structured interviews were used.
Results:
nursing affects healthcare waste management multidimensionally. Shortage of materials and work overload were identified as factors that influence professionals’ decision-making and increase the risk of improper waste disposal. The lack of knowledge on the subject also influences nursing practice. However, professionals value actions related to hazardous waste.
Final Considerations:
nursing professionals recognize themselves in healthcare waste management and understand the need to develop systemic awareness for sustainable practice.

Objectives:
to characterize the sociodemographic and psychological aspects of university students who sought psychiatric care at a Student Support Center of a Federal University and to analyze associations between mental health issues and predisposing factors.
Methods:
a retrospective analysis of 103 medical records was conducted. The statistical analysis consisted of two steps: a descriptive analysis and a predictive analysis using the Logistic Regression Model.
Results:
the majority of the students were female. Symptoms of anxiety, depression, and insomnia were the main reasons for seeking care. Students who reported having emotional difficulties that negatively impacted their studies and those who had undergone some form of health treatment showed a higher probability of experiencing anxiety symptoms. Notable correlations were found between anxiety and emotional difficulties, depression and diarrhea, and insomnia and a sedentary lifestyle.
Conclusions:
symptoms of anxiety, depression, and insomnia led students to seek psychiatric care at the university. Understanding the predisposing factors for mental health issues in university students can inform care strategies and promote academic success.

Objectives:
to analyze the editorial discourses of Acta Paulista de Enfermagem from 1988 to 2017.
Methods:
qualitative, historical, oral research, with interviews with the journal’s editors. Statements were categorized and presented in three decades, discussed from Foucault’s archaeological perspective.
Results:
seven statements presented three discourses. In the first decade, the discourse of knowledge registration and circulation presented statements of graduate studies and professional recognition. In the second decade, knowledge internationalization was added, with statements of business and editorial panopticism, selection criteria, indexing and digitalization. Finally, the discourse of shifting scientific assessment centrality was added with statements of preprint, open science, exclusive digitalization and mediatization of science.
Final Considerations:
the journal needed to adapt to form its official discourse, which made it possible, over the years, to change its initial peripheral position to a central one within scientific communication, supporting its panoptic role.

Objectives:
to identify the strategies found in the literature for increasing vaccination coverage among children in Brazil. It is justified mainly by the current scenario of falling vaccination coverage.
Methods:
systematic literature review. The search was carried out in the Pubmed (MEDLINE), Embase and Scopus databases, following the PRISMA guidelines.
Results:
initially, 4,824 results were returned. In the end, 6 studies were included for narrative synthesis using the SWiM methodology. Of these, 50% dealt with studies related to the Bolsa Família Program (PBF). The others explored strategies for approaching parents directly, Rapid Vaccination Monitoring (MRV) and the Community Health Agents Program (PACS). The PBF did not guarantee compliance with the conditionality of keeping vaccinations up to date. The MRV and PACS are effective strategies, especially because they allow active search for absentees.
Conclusions:
we conclude that more publications are needed on strategies to increase vaccination coverage among children in Brazil.

Objectives:
to analyze the relationship between the nursing practice environment and hospital sociotechnical complexity as perceived by nurses.
Methods:
a sequential explanatory mixed-methods study was conducted in a hospital in southern Brazil. The Brazilian version of the Practice Environment Scale-Nursing Work Index and the Complexity Characterization Questionnaire were administered to 132 nurses. Subsequently, semi-structured interviews were conducted with 18 participants, and the data were subjected to thematic analysis. Data integration was achieved through a connection approach.
Results:
the nursing practice environment was found to be favorable, except in the subscale concerning Staffing and Resource Adequacy, where complexity was present in the activities. The three emerging categories explained human and technical aspects related to complexity in the practice environment, quality of care, and patient safety. Unexpected variability was inversely correlated with the practice environment.
Conclusions:
the study results indicate a relationship between these constructs, with implications for the quality and the safety of care.

Objectives:
to analyze the factors associated with maternal well-being during childbirth among postpartum women in Minas Gerais.
Methods:
a cross-sectional study nested within a cohort was conducted with postpartum women in a municipality of Minas Gerais. The Maternal Well-being in Childbirth Scale 2 was used. The prevalence of maternal well-being during childbirth was estimated. The magnitude of the association between maternal distress and care practices was estimated using the Prevalence Ratio (PR), applying Poisson regression.
Results:
a total of 183 postpartum women aged between 15 and 46 years participated, with 26.2%, 27.9%, and 45.9% reporting excellent, adequate, and poor well-being during childbirth care, respectively. Maternal distress was more prevalent among women who underwent cesarean sections (PR = 1.60) and those who did not receive breastfeeding information (PR = 1.59).
Conclusions:
a high prevalence of maternal distress during childbirth was observed, associated with cesarean delivery and the lack of breastfeeding information.
