Objective:
to analyze adverse events following immunization (AEFI) caused by immunization error in the state of Paraná, Brazil, from 2003 to 2013.
Method:
this is a descriptive, documental, retrospective, and quantitative research using secondary data from the Adverse Event Following Immunization Information System and the Immunization Program Evaluation System. We included cases confirmed and/or associated with different types of vaccines. For the analysis, we collected frequencies and incidence rates, and used simple linear regression models with Student’s t-test.
Results:
it was observed an AEFI increase due to immunization errors, especially hot subcutaneous abscesses. BCG vaccine had the highest incidence of adverse events and children under one year old were the most affected individuals.
Conclusion:
the current scenario is worrisome because these are preventable AEFI – injuring patients due to bad vaccination practices – that may undermine the population’s confidence, reducing immunization coverage, and the progress in the control of vaccine-preventable diseases.

Objective:
to analyze the association between the environment of nursing practices and work satisfaction in Intensive Care Units (ICU).
Method:
a cross-sectional study was performed in eight adult ICUs of a public university hospital between 2012 and 2015. The Nursing Work Index-Revised (NWI-R), in their short forms, and the Index of Work Satisfaction (IWS) were applied to investigate the environment of nursing practices and work satisfaction, respectively.
Results:
a total of 100 (34.84%) nurses and 187 (65.15%) nursing assistants/technicians participated in this study. The environment was favorable for autonomy and relationships and it showed vulnerability for control of practices and organizational support. The IWS score indicated low work satisfaction. “Environment of practices”, “length of work in the ICU” and “willingness to work” were associated with work satisfaction.
Conclusion:
to invest in the environment of practices, in factors that promote willingness to work and length of experience in the ICU increases nursing work satisfaction.

Objective:
analyze social representations of nurses related to the care for women involved with drugs.
Method:
qualitative research founded on the theory of social representations, with 42 nurses from a public maternity ward of Salvador-BA, using identification questionnaire, test of free association of words, and semi-structured interview. We analyzed the structure of social representations and the similarity tree of free evocations, and also analyzed the content of interviews.
Results:
care for women involved with drugs is represented by a set of words that shows theoretical questions and scientific techniques, but faced with experiences in the training, in the daily work and in ideas and values assigned to the consumption of drugs especially in the gravidic-puerperal period.
Conclusion:
The social representations of nurses show conflicts between social and cultural aspects around the problem of drugs and the health care provided to women involved with drugs.

Objective:
to analyze conceptions of nurses on child health surveillance in family health units.
Method:
a qualitative study with thematic analysis of the data, based on the paradigm of Health Surveillance. Interviews were conducted with 13 nurses in a countryside city in the state of Sao Paulo.
Results:
nurses conceived child health surveillance as an active monitoring, which should be comprehensive, identifying risks/vulnerabilities, through multidisciplinary and intersectoral actions that are dependent on maternal involvement. We found partial development of these assumptions in practice, due to diffi culties such as lack of maternal involvement in the proposed actions, lack of time for discussion and adoption of measures in the units and disarticulation between levels and sectors of the city.
Conclusion:
a greater political and technical investment is needed to ensure the adoption of this model in different sectors and levels of care of the city.

Objective:
to identify the attributes of the “family insufficiency” concept of the aged in the literature.
Method:
critical literature analysis.
Results:
family insufficiency is characterized as a complex process of psychosocial interaction, founded mainly on low social support of the aged and impaired family ties. Its antecedents are found in contemporary transformations within the family system, intergenerational conflicts, impaired family relationships and social vulnerability of the family. The consequences of family insufficiency include social vulnerability of the aged, decline of psychological and functional health, lower quality of life and unsuccessful aging. An original theoretical proposal was elaborated for the concept of family insufficiency in the elderly, with the identification of its attributes, antecedents and consequences.
Conclusion:
the findings of this study constitute a theoretical advancement in the Family Insufficiency Syndrome in elderly people and provide data for future field research in developing the concept.

Objectives:
to assess the physical and mental components of nursing professionals’ quality of life and associate them with individual, health and work characteristics.
Methods:
cross-sectional research, with nursing professionals from a university hospital in São Paulo. Own questionnaire and validated instruments were applied.
Results:
the overall quality of life was compromised. The physical component was lower in relation to low family income and among those who perceived greater control/pressure at work, and better for those who practiced physical activity and had support of leader and organization. The mental component was lower in professionals who reported dissatisfaction with work, worse self-rated physical health and were older. Scores for both components reduced due to work-related illnesses, worse work ability and increased daytime sleepiness.
Conclusions:
quality of life was statistically associated with controllable institutional factors and individual resources that, except age, can be promoted.

Objectives:
to understand the meanings of violence internalized throughout life by older adults living in rural areas.
Methods:
a qualitative study, anchored in the Symbolic Interactionism theoretical framework and the Grounded Theory methodological framework in the constructivist aspect. Data collection occurred through individual interviews. Data were coded using the Atlas.ti software.
Results:
it was possible to identify that the context of rural areas strengthens patriarchy culture as well as contributing to violence silence and naturalization. It was also found that violence is a product of social inequality and gender inequality.
Final Considerations:
older adults living in rural areas internalized the violence suffered in a unique way, and this scenario’s specific aspects can increase intra-family abuse, as there is a patriarchal culture that promotes social and gender inequality.
