Objectives:
to assess high-risk prenatal care and identify strategies for improving care.
Methods:
a mixed study of a prospective cohort, with 319 mothers in a public maternity hospital, from October 2016 to August 2017, using a semi-structured instrument and interview. Analysis was performed using the chi-square test (p≤0.05). The qualitative approach was carried out through interviews with guiding questions to 13 managers, at their workplace, between January and March 2020, analyzed under social phenomenology.
Results:
higher rates of inadequacy were identified for all criteria. However, when care was shared, there was a higher rate for performing tests (p=0.023), consultations (p=0.002), risk stratification (p=0.013) and emergency information (≤0.000). Weaknesses in the record evidenced impairment in communication and continuity of care.
Final Considerations:
shared care is a strategy for improving care, however there is a need to strengthen effective referral and counter-referral to care continuity.

Objective:
to unveil women’s existential movement after cardiac surgery.
Method:
qualitative phenomenological study. The research setting was a hospital in Minas Gerais, in which ten women were interviewed between December 2011 and January 2012.
Results:
after hospital discharge, the women experienced physical, social and emotional impairments, and expressed the desire to go back to the time before their diagnosis, because they felt as though they still had heart disease. This vague and average understanding led to three units of meaning that, from a Heideggerian hermeneutic point of view, revealed the phenomenon of cardiac surgery as a present circumstance that limited the participants’ daily lives.
Conclusion:
nurses supporting women patients after cardiac surgery should promote health considering existential facets that are expressed during care. The bases for comprehensive care are revealed in singular and whole meetings of subjectivity.

Objective:
to understand nurse technicians’ experience with caring for the death of terminal patients in ICUs and to configure a theoretical model.
Method:
qualitative study with theoretical saturation when analyzing the 10th non-directive interview, having as reference Grounded Theory, Symbolic Interactionism and Bioethics.
Results:
the core category – from frustration to coping with dignified nursing care for finitude: the acceptance of death as a therapeutic and intervenient component – emerged from the comparison of the sub-processes: when the nurse does not feel prepared for caring for death, accepting death as a therapeutic phenomenon and developing coping strategies.
Conclusion:
according to Symbolic Interactionism, a novice professional’s frustration in caring for an individual for death is related to his/her interaction and interpretation of the situation as he/she feels prepared only to care for individuals for life.

Objective:
this article discusses comprehensive care as a guiding tenet of the Brazilian Unifi ed Health System (SUS), outlining health care practices, especially nursing, and the relationships built by subjects in action by means of different knowledge.
Methods:
this is a theoretical refl ection that aims to propose dimensions of analysis (access to services, reception, links, lines of care, accountability, and responsiveness), with an emphasis on the dilemmas and challenges of nursing. The proposed dimensions analyze the production of care and its political and technical aspects.
Conclusion:
care should be the focus of all health care work, bearing in mind that intervention for technological action of each profession goes beyond the core of isolated knowledge, as is the case of nursing, which is connected to other professional practices, and can peruse other territories that operate through relational technologies, entering into the world of the needs of users and families.

Objective:
to assess the knowledge and practice of primary health care nurses about control and elimination actions of leprosy.
Method:
evaluation study with qualitative approach, using the Discourse of the Collective Subject, data were collected through semi-structured interviews conducted with 16 nurses.
Results:
the data collected revealed that health professionals have suffi cient knowledge about the National Policy on Control and Elimination of Leprosy (NPCEL) and that the main actions preconized were applied, however, notifi cation of suspected or confi rmed cases and social reintegration of the patient were not mentioned.
Conclusion:
keeping patients in treatment, overload of work, lack of interdisciplinarity and treatment performed at other locations outside of the community were diffi culties reported by professionals. Nurses know the actions addressed at assistance of leprosy patients, however, the study points to the need for a practice which is more aligned to what advocates NPCEL.
