    ABSTRACT

    Objective:

this article reports on the experience of using the interpretive phenomenological framework of Patricia Benner in a Brazilian context. Benner’s interpretive phenomenology, based on existential and interpretative philosophy, aims to understand human experiences in the particular worlds of research participants. Data were collected through interviews with nine nurses in November and December 2014.

    Results:

data analysis process according to Benner’s framework consisted of: transcription, coding, thematic analysis, and search for paradigmatic cases and examples. Therefore, the prior knowledge of the researcher is an important part of the study, consisting in manners of the research conduction.

    Conclusion:

The use of this methodological framework entailed a great challenge for the researcher, however, it also enabled a unique opportunity to illuminate important existential phenomena related to the daily lives of research participants.

    ABSTRACT

    Objective:

to analyze the application of the theory evaluation model proposed by Meleis in Brazilian studies.

    Method:

integrative review of online articles published from 2002 to 2012 in the databases LILACS and BDENF.

    Results:

the 16 selected studies confirmed the use of only three of the five stages proposed for Meleis’ theories analysis: Description of the Theory, Criticism of the Theory and Analysis of the Theory, with a predominance of a single unit of analysis in each.

    Conclusion:

the analysis of nursing theories provides support to nurses in the practice, research, education and administration of the different dimensions of care. Meleis’ model figures as very important by contributing to the development of knowledge of nursing discipline, considering that its use as a method allows several reflections on theories in order that they be revalidated to support a more theoretical and practical applicability.

    ABSTRACT

    Objective:

to evaluate the conditions of functional health literacy of an elderly diabetics group.

    Method:

cross-sectional and descriptive study, with diabetic’s elderly assisted in the SUS (N = 114). The social and health conditions were evaluated as well as functional health literacy by S-TOFHLA test (short version); the simple proportions, average, standard deviation and Pearson’s Chi-square were described by SPSS software (20.0) with α = 5% value.

    Results:

the mean age was 67.4 years, 74.0% of the elderly were women, had up to four years of schooling; 29.8% had a long-standing illness, 64.0% reported having high blood pressure, 47.4% smoke or were smokers, 73.7% had low functional health literacy, which was associated with schooling p = 0.001.

    Conclusions:

the low functional health literacy could be a self-care conditioning and can be influenced by low schooling because it implies to have skills to understand and make decisions aimed at self-management of health.

    ABSTRACT

    Objective:

To know the maternal perception about early stimulation and its repercussion in the development of the child with microcephaly associated with zika virus.

    Method:

A qualitative study was carried out from June to August 2017 with five mothers of children diagnosed with microcephaly associated with zika virus. The data were collected through individual interviews with semi-structured script and evaluated by the content analysis, in its thematic modality.

    Results:

Mothers recognized the benefits and the advances in the development of the child after the beginning of the early stimulation. It is noteworthy that the difficulty of transportation was the main reason for the lack of attendance at consultations, and that the short time of stimulation was the main weakness of the service.

    Final considerations:

The recognition of maternal perception and the difficulties and weaknesses of the service can contribute to the elaboration of public policies and the planning of holistic care for children with microcephaly and their families.

    ABSTRACT

    Objectives:

to identify the occurrence of oncology teaching in undergraduate nursing curricula.

    Methods:

descriptive study, which data was obtained from curriculum and from Pedagogical Course Projects available on the websites from Brazilian public institutions, between June and July 2020.

    Results:

143 undergraduate nursing courses were identified. From them, 132 nursing courses (corresponding to 89 education institutions) had available the curriculum and/or Pedagogical Course Projects. Only 7 (5.3%) of them had oncology as a mandatory subject, 4 of them in the Midwest Region. Only 35 (26.5%) had elective subject in Oncology, most of them in the Northeast (45.7%).

    Conclusions:

on third of nursing courses at public institutions has Oncology subject in the curriculum, which is few considering the high incidence and mortality from cancer in the country. The findings contribute for discussions, in curricular accommodation, on the relevance of oncology teaching in nursing curricula.

    ABSTRACT

    Objective:

To describe nurses’ experience in the care of high-risk newborns.

    Method:

This is a descriptive study with a qualitative approach, based on Merleau-Ponty’s phenomenology and performed at the Fernando Magalhães Maternity Hospital in the state of Rio de Janeiro, through interviews with 30 nurses who work in neonatal care, according to the phenomenological thinking of Maurice Merleau- Ponty.

    Results:

Three categories emerged: “experienced body of the nurse practitioner on the high-risk newborn”; “experienced world of the nurse practitioner on the high-risk newborn”; and “time spent by the nurse practitioner with the high-risk newborn”.

    Final considerations:

The study allowed us to describe, through the participants’ speeches, that the care of the high-risk newborn is broad, that is, objective, subjective and carried out with advanced technologies, their experiences and scientific improvement are composed of shared practice and theory with the family, professionals and beginners in the neonatal universe, favoring a differentiated and humanized care.

    ABSTRACT

    Objectives:

to analyze the microbiological profile of leg ulcers of patients treated at outpatient clinics and hospitals regarding the type of microorganism, microbiological selection of antibiotics, and techniques for the collection of culture material.

    Methods:

literature review performed on LILACS, IBECS, MEDLINE, and CINAHL databases, resulting in a descriptive analysis of 27 studies.

    Results:

35.7% of the studies occurred in an outpatient care scenario; and 64.2% in hospitals. There was a predominance of swab (100%) in outpatient care and biopsy (55.5%) in the hospital. Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Staphylococcus aureus were more common at both levels of assistance. Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus was isolated in both.

    Conclusions:

the microbiological profile of infections was similar, with the presence of resistant bacteria in both environments. This fact causes concern and raises the need for research to elucidate it. The studies did not compare the effectiveness between biopsy and swab.

    ABSTRACT

    Objective:

To identify the level of health literacy in informal caregivers of elders with Alzheimer’s disease.

    Methods:

Descriptive study with a quantitative and qualitative approach, with health literacy as a theoretical framework. Research carried out with 42 informal caregivers of elders with Alzheimer’s from a geriatrics outpatient clinic, using a questionnaire with sociodemographic data and the Health Literacy instrument.

    Results:

The functional and conceptual levels were more prevalent, with regards to elders with Alzheimer’s, than the empowering level. Caregivers searched, evaluated, and used health information and expressed abilities to use and judge the information received.

    Final considerations:

The predominance of categories in the cognitive level of learning indicates the need to strengthen the empowering level of these caregivers. Health literacy made it possible to reveal the demands of informal caregivers of elders with Alzheimer’s, evaluating their individual ability to offer this type of assistance. It is also a tool capable of reaching better health results.

    Methods:

this is a systematic review following the Cochrane Collaboration recommendations.

    Results:

among 355 manuscripts, five were eligible. The patient navigation program by Community Health Agent stood out with the best result, among the strategies: flexibility of goals considering viability; community engagement; team training; active search of the target population by Community Health Agent; request for mammography by physicians; actions integrated to women’s health; monitoring of mammography results, absent users, and population coverage by physician and nurse; and assessment of criteria for requesting screening mammography by means of an information system. The population coverage rate in the program ranged from 23% to 88%.

    Conclusions:

Primary Health Care in Brazil presents devices with potential to induce the production of care for breast cancer screening.

    ABSTRACT

    Objectives:

to analyze the process of permanent professional training of Primary Health Care nurse managers from the perspective of reflective practice theory, built by Donald Schön.

    Methods:

    this is a theoretical-reflective study.

    Results:

the findings apply to nurse managers’ practice to deal with the dilemmas that present themselves in the professional routine according to their knowledge, skills and attitudes, anchored in the reflection-in-action movement, which unites the process of permanent and practical training reflective, favoring the development of skills relevant to management.

    Final Considerations:

nursing health managers, during their ongoing training process, can develop skills to act effectively in Primary Care, reflecting in practice and on practice, deciding on the need to remain in training to address the issues arising from that same practice.
