Objective:
to investigate the prevalence and factors associated with frailty in non-institutionalized older adults living in northern Minas Gerais, Brazil.
Method:
data were collected in their homes, in 2013, based on a census cluster sampling. Demographic and socioeconomic variables, morbidities, utilization of health care services, and scores on the Edmonton Fragility Scale were analyzed. The adjusted prevalence ratios were obtained using the Poisson regression multiple analysis with robust variance.
Results:
the prevalence of frailty was 41.3%. The variables associated with frailty were: female gender, very old age, education of less than four years, not having been hospitalized in the last 12 months, having a caregiver, falling in the prior year, diabetes mellitus, cardiac disease, and osteoarticular disease.
Conclusion:
the prevalence of frailty was high. Some factors consist of modifiable conditions, which should encourage health actions aimed at this group.

Objective:
to analyze the factors that influenced the choice for nursing made by graduates from the first class of the Undergraduate Nursing and Obstetrics Course of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte in the 1970s and to understand the senses and meanings of being a nurse when choosing this profession.
Method:
a qualitative socio-historical study was performed, using oral history to collect data.
Results:
the analysis generated the following categories: “To be a nurse: a professional choice” and “The ideal of being a nurse: senses and meanings”. The senses of “being a nurse” are associated with graduates’ perspective of this profession and the meanings included the traditional conceptions that have historically affected it.
Conclusion:
professional choice was influenced by family and work expectations and the nursing course had an effect on the construction of nurses’ professional identity.

Objective:
to identify nurses’ knowledge and practice in the framework of the Family Health Strategy program with regard to social participation in health.
Method:
qualitative study which had the Family Health Units in a municipality of Minas Gerais as setting. Nine nurses participated in the study, and they were interviewed individually in July and August 2014. Data were collected and analyzed according to the content analysis technique and interpreted in the light of Paulo Freire’s ontology and critical pedagogy.
Results:
the analyzed statements showed that nurses bring along conceptual and behavioral inconsistencies which need to be equalized, so their knowledge and practice can mediate the challenging construction of participatory management in health.
Conclusion:
an improvement in nurses’ training is suggested, both academically and professionally, aiming at strengthening their political role in the process of consolidation of social participation in the Brazilian Unified Health System.

Objective:
to identify scientific productions showing relevant interventions to implement the Cervical Uterine Cancer Prevention Program increasing adherence to exams.
Method:
integrative literature review through an online search in the following databases: LILACS, SciELO, and PubMed® comprising articles published from 2009 to 2014.
Results:
thirty-eight articles made up the study’s final sample. Results showed the following interventions: use of case manager; telephone call; invitation letter; educational activities; media outreach work; community health agents; partnerships; population database screening; and multiple interventions.
Conclusion:
studies are mainly focused on women from developing countries and interventions are efficacious to increase women’s knowledge about and adherence to prevention of cervical uterine cancer.

Objective:
to characterize the patients’ anxiety in the preoperative period of heart surgery.
Method:
We conducted a cross-sectional study in which 106 patients, between one and five days from the date of surgery, were interviewed using a socio-demographic questionnaire and the Beck Anxiety Inventory.
Results:
The evaluated patients accounted for 59.4% (63) in minimal anxiety and 19.8% (21) in the range considered severe, and the sample had a mean in the mild anxiety level (15.8±19.79). The women had scores (22.13±23.41) significantly (p=0.003) higher than men (10.76±14.71); as well as patients who had undergone previous heart surgery (24.4±28.05 X 13.14±15.74). There was no significant difference between older adults and younger patients, nor in terms of weight variations, presence of diabetes, or alcoholism.
Conclusion:
We reinforces the importance of nurses in recognizing the preoperative anxiety and intervene through strategies of health education and nursing visits.

Objective:
to describe the profile of drug addicts attended in a mental health service, the frequency of suicidal behavior among the participants and the associations between these two problems.
Method:
an exploratory, retrospective and descriptive study based on a quantitative approach, and data collected from medical records of patients with F10-F19 diagnoses according to the ICD-10 treated in this service in 2013. We expected to identify a possible association between independent variables (family, psychiatric and personal history) and the dependent variable (suicidal behavior).
Results:
Most of the individuals were men, single, with a low educational attainment, unemployed and aged between 15 and 45 years; 43.90% had a record of suicidal behavior.
Conclusion:
drug addicts with suicidal behavior are young people under the age of 30 presenting psychiatric comorbidity, mood disorders and/or depression, presence of family conflict, important dates coinciding with the suicidal behavior and mothers with psychiatric history.

Objective:
To validate, with the target audience, the usability and appearance of a serialized album about the warning signs to the health of children below 2 months.
Method:
Methodological validation study with the target population of an educational material in the form of a serialized album. 11 mothers with children under 2 months of age participated. The domains evaluated were: Objectives, Organization, Writing Style, Appearance, and Motivation. Data were analyzed using descriptive and statistics, and the data agreement index was calculated.
Results:
The global data agreement index was high (0.99). Mothers had positive responses, recognizing the excellence of the material: attractive figures that were easy to understand.
Conclusion:
The validation of the serialized album provides mothers with the abilities and knowledge they need to identify warning signs in regard to the health of their children, providing them with autonomy, corresponsibility, and helping them develop better child health practices.

Objective:
To validate the Brazilian Portuguese translation and analyze the cultural adaptation of the Venous International Assessment Scale.
Methods:
Observational study by employing the Delphi technique and an equivalence evaluation by experts. The results were analyzed using item scores and by content validity index calculations of item, scale, and universal agreement.
Results:
Three rounds of evaluation were necessary for consensus. Explanatory contents were incorporated into the original scale throughout the process, resulting in a new version: VIA Scale – Revised. This scale obtained a content validity index of 0.96 and a universal agreement of 0.78. In the cross-cultural adequacy analysis phase, a score of 0.77 was obtained. The majority (90.5%) of the participants judged the scale’s decision support property as positive.
Conclusion:
The VIA Scale was validated and culturally adapted to the Brazilian Portuguese language, resulting in the VIA Scale – Revised (VIA-R).

Objective:
To analyze the effects of the technique of virtual reality guided imagery in the vital signs of hematopoietic stem-cell transplantation patients.
Method:
Quasi-experimental study with 35 participants who received an intervention using virtual reality guided imagery with progressive muscle relaxation, applied three times a week for four weeks in a referral hospital for transplants in the south of Brazil. Data collected included: temperature, arterial pressure, respiratory rate, heart rate, pain, and oxygen saturation, before and after each intervention. The comparisons were analyzed using Wilcoxon’s test.
Results:
There was a clinical significance between the mean measurements before and after for respiratory rate (p=0.00) in all stages, and for the variables Heart rate, Temperature, and Oxygen saturation from the 1st to the 12th measurements (p=0.05).
Conclusion:
The intervention was low cost, easy to apply, and showed positive effects, presenting itself as an option for patient-focused care.

Objective:
Semantically validate an educational technology with the caregiver of children and adolescents undergoing chemotherapy.
Method:
Methodological study, with a quantitative approach, guided by the theoretical framework of psychometry, developed between March and April 2022, with nine caregivers of children and adolescents undergoing chemotherapy. Educational technology is a digital animation film about the pediatric chemotherapy treatment process, used as a tool for health education.
Results:
In the reliability assessment, the Intraclass Correlation Coefficient was 0.936 [95%CI 0.868-0.984] with p < 0.05 and Cronbach’s alpha of 0.943, demonstrating satisfactory internal consistency. Regarding the semantic analysis, the domains related to objectives, organization, language, appearance, and motivation showed an agreement rate above 80%.
Conclusion:
Educational technology showed satisfactory rates, proving to be a valid, reliable, and important instrument to be used by caregivers of children and adolescents undergoing chemotherapy.

to present and discuss the advancement of science in symptom management through research involving oncological symptom clusters (OSC).
Method:
a reflective study, supported by the scientific literature on OSC.
Results:
five key points are crucial to advancing the science of symptom management through research involving OSC: definition of OSC characteristics; underlying mechanisms and priority symptom clusters; OSC measurement; targeted and personalized interventions; new analytical strategies.
Final considerations:
a better understanding of the complex connections between different systems and biobehavioral aspects in patients, especially in the field of oncology nursing, is urgent. The study of these interactions has become increasingly promising and emerging for oncology nursing, since therapeutic interventions, whose target is the neuroimmunoendocrine axis, are relevant for personalized care, translating into greater scientific and nurse autonomy to care for patients.

Objectives:
to analyze the prevalence of the Human Immunodeficiency Virus and the associated factors in pregnant women in the state of Pará.
Methods:
retrospective, analytical, quantitative study with a sample of 332 medical records of HIV-positive pregnant women hospitalized at the Referral Maternity Hospital in the state of Pará between 2010 and 2019. Bivariate and multivariate statistical analysis were performed with the variables collected.
Results:
the average prevalence in the period was 2.39% and the Metropolitan Region concentrated 66.87% of cases. There was a strong relationship between the number of antenatal consultations and lack of knowledge of serological status (p value equal to 0.01E-17) variables, and a correlation between the education and number of antenatal consultations variables.
Conclusions:
the increase in the infection rate during the study period revealed the need to intensify health actions, early diagnosis and strategies to improve adherence to antiretroviral treatment for maternal viral suppression and reduction of the risk of vertical transmission, contributing to improve public policies.

Objectives:
to analyze the occurrence of respiratory complications over the first year of life in preterm infants who did not receive palivizumab monoclonal antibodies.
Methods:
analytical retrospective cohort study with preterm infants born between 2012 and 2016 in Uberlândia, state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. Data collection occurred from January to November 2018, by consulting hospital and primary healthcare medical records. Data were processed with the Poisson regression model, with p<0.05.
Results:
of a total of 5,213 preterm births, 504 (9.7%) met the inclusion criteria. The preterm infants in this subset were assisted 2,899 times in primary care, which resulted in 1,098 (37.5%) medical diagnoses, of which 803 (78.5%) involved the respiratory tract. Preterm babies fed on formula milk at hospital discharge had more diagnoses of respiratory diseases. Maternal age (p=0.039), respiratory diagnosis at hospital discharge (p=0.028), and number of sporadic appointments (p<0.001) showed a significant association with bronchiolitis; number of sporadic appointments showed a significant association with occurrence of respiratory diseases; and breastfeeding had a protective effect against the development of bronchiolitis.
Conclusions:
preterm infants who did not receive palivizumab showed a high percentage of respiratory diseases, and breastfeeding helped protect them against bronchiolitis. It is recommended that these preterm babies be monitored in primary health care.

Objectives:
to present the validation process of a Grounded Theory on the management of palliative care at home by a caregiver of a family member who experiences a death/dying process.
Methods:
a qualitative, explanatory research, which validated a theoretical matrix through a conversation circle containing 15 family caregivers and nine healthcare professionals, in December 2018.
Results:
forty-six propositions were validated regarding family caregivers’ contextual, causal, intervening conditions, consequences and action strategies to deal with the dying and death process of a family member. Conversation circles encouraged dialogue and (re)signification of the senses and knowledge of those involved, proving to be a way of educating and promoting the exercise of citizenship by participants.
Final Considerations:
the conversation circle made it possible for participants to interact and share information and experiences regarding home care for palliative patients and their families.

Objective:
to map the evidence on mental health interventions implemented during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Method:
this scoping review was carried out in the MEDLINE/PubMed, SCOPUS, Web of Science, PsycINFO, and Science Direct databases and in the medRxiv, bioRxiv, and PsyArXiv preprints servers using the descriptors “Covid-19”, “coronavirus infection”, “coronavirus”, “2019-nCoV”, “2019 novel coronavirus disease”, “SARS-CoV-2”, “health personnel”, “general public”, and “mental health”.
Results:
eight articles were selected and categorized into mental health interventions for the population, among which mental health interventions were for people diagnosed with suspicion/confirmed COVID-19 and mental health interventions for health professionals.
Conclusion:
telemonitoring, virtual games and strategies focused on social support and muscle relaxation techniques, characterized as non-pharmacological and low-cost, were shown as interventions, which, since they are effective, need to be encouraged and included in mental health care practices.

Objective:
To know the scientific production on the performance of the nursing staff in robotic surgeries, identifying the role of the nurse in the three perioperative periods.
Methods:
Integrative review, search in the databases National Library of Medicine, National Institutes of Health, Scientific Electronic Library Online and Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde, performed from June to September, 2017; 17 selected articles met the inclusion criteria.
Results:
Most articles were published in foreign journals in English, nine in the United States, classified with evidence level of 4 and 5. The role of nursing in the perioperative period was identified, related mainly to patient safety. The most mentioned perioperative period in the articles was the intraoperative, with greater concern in the positioning of the patient.
Conclusion:
The nursing performance and patient safety in robotic surgeries are similar to the ones in major surgeries, requiring from the patient a specific knowledge on the setting and preparation of the robot.

Objective:
To understand spirituality/religiosity as experienced by people with sickle cell disease, and its influence on coping with the disease.
Method:
A qualitative, descriptive, and exploratory study conducted in the State of Bahia. Twenty-nine respondents participated in semi-structured interviews. Content analysis was used to analyze the empirical material.
Results:
Individuals with sickle cell disease experience spirituality/religiosity motivated by their hope for a miracle, and fear of death; among their rites are: reading religious materials, individual and group prayer, and attendance at worship services. The effects on their health include: comfort by means of coping by comparing two evils, anxiety relief, social support, and lifestyle changes; however, spirituality/religiosity may be impaired.
Final considerations:
This study demonstrates the need to qualify health professionals to address spiritual issues of these individuals during illness, with the aims of diagnosing suffering and anguish, and providing care, comfort and strengthening of the spiritual bonds of these individuals.

Objectives:
to describe the construction and validation process for a mobile application for development of the nursing history and diagnosis.
Methods:
methodological study conducted in 2018 in three stages: content creation, based on the Basic Human Needs categories and nursing diagnoses; content assessment by nine nursing judges, with calculation of the content validity index; and construction of the application, which included definition of the requirements, a conceptual map, implementation and prototyping options, tests and implementation.
Results:
the application was organized by sections: Grouped Basic Human Needs, Cranial pair tests, Clinical assessment scales and Additional tests. Two section were adjusted according to the judges’ suggestions.
Final Considerations:
it is the first application produced in Brazil based on the Basic Human Need categories, which enables quick access to information, concepts and typical nomenclatures of semiology, recording of clinical data and definition of nursing diagnoses.

Objectives:
to assess factors associated with vulnerability and fragility in the elderly.
Methods:
crosssectional study with 384 elderly people in Fortaleza, Ceará. The Vulnerable Elders Survey and Clinical-Functional Vulnerability Index – 20 were used. Chi-square and Fisher’s exact tests were used for associations. In the analysis of the combined influence of risk factors, the stepwise logistic regression and multinomial regression methods were adopted.
Results:
251 (65.4%) non-vulnerable and 133 (34.6%) vulnerable elders. From the vulnerable elders analyzed, 42 (30.9%) are at high risk for frailty. Factors associated with vulnerability: age, gender, presence of comorbidities, hypertension, diabetes, osteoporosis and use of polypharmacy. There is a 30% increase in the chance of vulnerability for each additional drug. Physical activity reduces the chance of vulnerability by 60%. Factors associated with frailty: educational level; self-perception of health; comorbidities; polypharmacy.
Conclusions:
it is important to pay attention to the presence of arterial hypertension, osteoporosis, polypharmacy, and encourage the practice of physical activity.

Objective:
To analyze the association between the caring ability and the burden, stress and coping of family caregivers of people in cancer treatment.
Method:
A cross-sectional study with 132 family caregivers. The following instruments were applied: a characterization instrument, the Caring Ability Inventory, the Zarit Burden Interview, the Perceived Stress Scale, and the Brief COPE. The Spearman Correlation was used with significance ≤5%.
Results:
There were significant and positive correlations between total caring ability and: burden – interpersonal relationship (p=0.03); stress (p=0.02) and maladaptive coping (p=0.00); and inversely proportional correlations with problem-focused coping (p=0.03). The courage had inversely proportional correlation with: self-efficacy (p=0.03), interpersonal relationship (p=0.00), stress (p=0.04) and maladaptive coping (p=0.00). The knowledge had significant and positive correlation with problem-focused coping (p=0.00), adaptive coping (p=0.01), and inverse correlation with stress (p=0.02).
Conclusion:
The level of caring ability correlates with levels of stress and burden, and with the type of coping strategy used by family caregivers.

Objectives:
to evaluate students’ knowledge gain after the implementation of clinical simulation in Nursing Fundamentals disciplines.
Methods:
a quasi-experimental intervention was carried out with 60 students, distributed in comparison and intervention groups, who underwent traditional teaching and traditional teaching associated with simulated teaching, respectively. Pre-test and post-test instruments were applied to both groups.
Results:
after analyzing the students’ performance through the applied instruments, both groups had a cognitive evolution along with the taught content, however, when compared, the intervention group obtained a higher knowledge gain than the comparison group (p = 0.016), demonstrating progressive and increasing improvement with the use of the methodology.
Conclusions:
simulated teaching significantly helps students in gaining technical-cognitive knowledge. Therefore, it is recommended to adhere to the use of this methodology for teaching Nursing Fundamentals.

Objectives:
to analyze theoretical conceptions of Eliot Freidson’s Sociology of Professions scoped on health and nursing professions.
Methods:
Eight nurses were interviewed, all involved in the development of the professional Council on the timeframe from 1975 to 1986. Documental resources were Laws, Ordinances, Resolutions, Reports, Meeting Minutes and Public Deeds. Information was organized as from literature and Eliot Freidson’s conceptions, and thematic content analysis was carried out.
Results:
the concepts authored by Eliot Freidson allowed for the development of a concept chart that portrays the nursing profession and that may be expanded for the other occupations in the health field, in consonance with professional organization in the country.
Final Considerations:
Eliot Freidson’s framework, in interpretation for nursing, consolidates the profession with relative autonomy, expertise by Nursing Care Systematization and credentialism by professional normalizations.
