Objectives:
to understand the perceptions of women and health professionals regarding childbirth care at a teaching hospital in the western state of Paraná, Brazil.
Methods:
this qualitative study employed Grounded Theory, conducted in an obstetric care service with 38 participants (women and health professionals) through semi-structured interviews.
Results:
limitations in physical infrastructure and management of care, along with the women’s limited knowledge about the childbirth process and the decision-making and guidance of professionals, show conflicting obstetric practices-a discrepancy between good practices and obstetric violence. Training in obstetric nursing and active participation in care, alongside the presence of a companion, were identified as intervening conditions and strategies in the process.
Final Considerations:
childbirth care is characterized by dichotomous practices. While some professionals base their practices on scientific evidence, others rely on teachings and experiences from the time of their training.

Objectives:
to analyze the relationship between the nursing practice environment and hospital sociotechnical complexity as perceived by nurses.
Methods:
a sequential explanatory mixed-methods study was conducted in a hospital in southern Brazil. The Brazilian version of the Practice Environment Scale-Nursing Work Index and the Complexity Characterization Questionnaire were administered to 132 nurses. Subsequently, semi-structured interviews were conducted with 18 participants, and the data were subjected to thematic analysis. Data integration was achieved through a connection approach.
Results:
the nursing practice environment was found to be favorable, except in the subscale concerning Staffing and Resource Adequacy, where complexity was present in the activities. The three emerging categories explained human and technical aspects related to complexity in the practice environment, quality of care, and patient safety. Unexpected variability was inversely correlated with the practice environment.
Conclusions:
the study results indicate a relationship between these constructs, with implications for the quality and the safety of care.

Objectives:
to analyze the processes of production of meanings, based on the positions of Brazilian nursing representative entities, on distance education, considering the implications for nursing as a discipline, profession and work.
Methods:
this documentary research was carried out in sources from the Federal Nursing Council and Associação Brasileira de Enfermagem, from 2015 to 2018. Data were examined from discourse analysis, using paraphrase and polysemy as analytical devices.
Results:
they were organized based on the effects of meanings produced and affiliated to two analytical categories: “Forms of mobilization and operating entities” and “Basis and justifications for the positions”.
Final Considerations:
the discourses signal concern about the future training of new professionals. Resistance, participation, visibility, broad and emphatic debate on the topic are shown as strategies for coping and defending a training process less captured by neoliberal logic, and more relational and committed to the quality of health care.

Methods:
Integrative review in the databases CINAHL, MEDLINE, Scopus, ScienceDirect, WoS, and BVS. Inclusion criteria: original articles available in full, in any language, related to the object investigated.
Results:
During this pandemic, health workers have been making decisions based on ethical/bioethical principles (utility, beneficence, non-maleficence, autonomy, justice, proportionality, flexibility, clinical prognosis, duration of the need, and fair health attention), values (solidarity, equality, equity, utilitarianism, relational autonomy, reliability, reciprocity, maximization of the benefits and resources, and prioritization of those in worse conditions), beliefs and personal motivation, protocols, directives, tools, algorithms, recommendations, and criteria.
Final considerations:
Decision making has never been so necessary as in this pandemic. This article is not a recipe for the professionals, since decision making is based on numerous factors. However, it provides them with a foundation that can be helpful in this difficult process.

Objective:
to analyze the trend of hospitalizations of adolescents due to mental and behavioral disorders in Paraná, from 1998 to 2015.
Method:
ecological study of time series. Data were analyzed by means of segmented linear regression modeling for time series, estimated for each of the four health macro-regions.
Results:
the East macro-region showed a greater trend to increase hospitalizations from January 1998 to November 2003 (β1=0.006, p<0.001). In other macro-regions, there were similar trends with a sudden increase in February 2010, but with a further gradual decrease until December 2015. In the quadrennium 2012-2015, 38.06% of the hospitalizations lasted 29 or more days, and in the Northwest macro-region, hospitalizations lasted for up to seven days. The main cause of hospitalization was the use of alcohol and other drugs.
Conclusion:
there is a need to strengthen health actions to prevent drug use and improvements in the care network.
