Objective:
to characterize families and health status of the elderly in the Family Health Strategy and to verify the association of family composition with sociodemographic characteristics and health of the elderly.
Method:
population-based study with 215 families and 266 elderly, linked to the Family Health Strategy from a city of Rio Grande do Sul state.
Results:
there was predominance of nuclear family composition, considered as the main source of informal support, families of female elderly (62.6%) and cardiovascular complication. The nuclear structure was signifi cantly associated with female gender (PR = 0.77; p = 0.025) and smoking (PR = 1.35; p = 0.009).
Conclusion:
the results reinforce the need to maintain a network of formal and informal support to the elderly and their families to preserve the independence or to postpone the decline in functional capacity.

Objective:
to analyze similarities and dissimilarities in the meanings assigned to health care by long-lived elders and nursing professionals in a healthcare setting.
Method:
ethnographic qualitative research, based on the Spradley-McCurdy method and the interpretive anthropology of Geertz and Kleinman. The sample consisted of 20 key informants. Data were collected through participatory observation and ethnographic interviews from March to October 2013 and analyzed in domains, taxonomies and cultural themes.
Results:
Six domains and cultural taxonomies emerged and revealed reasons, attributes, and resources in providing care in relationship to long-lived elders and nursing professionals; fi nally, the following cultural theme emerged: the real to the ideal – the health (un)care of long-lived elders.
Conclusion:
The study showed the distance between the desired and actual health care provided to aged people in the scenario studied.

Objective:
to analyze conceptions of nurses on child health surveillance in family health units.
Method:
a qualitative study with thematic analysis of the data, based on the paradigm of Health Surveillance. Interviews were conducted with 13 nurses in a countryside city in the state of Sao Paulo.
Results:
nurses conceived child health surveillance as an active monitoring, which should be comprehensive, identifying risks/vulnerabilities, through multidisciplinary and intersectoral actions that are dependent on maternal involvement. We found partial development of these assumptions in practice, due to diffi culties such as lack of maternal involvement in the proposed actions, lack of time for discussion and adoption of measures in the units and disarticulation between levels and sectors of the city.
Conclusion:
a greater political and technical investment is needed to ensure the adoption of this model in different sectors and levels of care of the city.

Objective:
to identify the attributes of the “family insufficiency” concept of the aged in the literature.
Method:
critical literature analysis.
Results:
family insufficiency is characterized as a complex process of psychosocial interaction, founded mainly on low social support of the aged and impaired family ties. Its antecedents are found in contemporary transformations within the family system, intergenerational conflicts, impaired family relationships and social vulnerability of the family. The consequences of family insufficiency include social vulnerability of the aged, decline of psychological and functional health, lower quality of life and unsuccessful aging. An original theoretical proposal was elaborated for the concept of family insufficiency in the elderly, with the identification of its attributes, antecedents and consequences.
Conclusion:
the findings of this study constitute a theoretical advancement in the Family Insufficiency Syndrome in elderly people and provide data for future field research in developing the concept.

Objective:
to analyze the discourses about the care provided by nurses operating in Specialized HIV/Aids Outpatient Services in four public institutions of the city of Fortaleza, Ceará, Brazil.
Method:
descriptive and exploratory study with a qualitative approach, which used as a method the discourse analysis.
Results:
when titling the “care as negative”, such title came from the analogy proposed by Freud (1912) with the photographic negative, represented by what that care can configure from the unconscious movement, since nurses did not perceive themselves in the care actions developed by supporting the work of other occupational categories, contributing to maintain the ideology of biomedicine.
Conclusion:
it is necessary to justify and theorize a nursing clinical practice from epistemological issues of the profession, in such a way that nurses can understand their relevance within the care provided.

Objective:
To build and validate a guide of attributes of the nurse’s political competence.
Method:
Methodological research. This study comprised the construction of the instrument through literature review; experts validation of pre-established attributes for composing the guide; and clinical validation in the nurses work environment/reality. The data collection took place in the months from August to October 2014, and the analysis was based on the content analysis of Bardin and use of Epi info 3.5. All ethical precepts have been complied with.
Results:
From 29 attributes found in the literature, 25 have been validated by experts. Clinical/practical validation involved the participation of 43 nurses, who observed that the attributes are not articulated with the professional practices developed by them.
Conclusion:
The attributes of the nurse’s political competence were identified with support of literature. It is concluded that the professionals still have limited and fragmented perception of political competence, expressing difficulty/limitation.

Objectives:
to analyze the average direct cost of PICC insertion by nurses.
Methods:
this is a unique case study with a quantitative approach. The observation took place in a public hospital, collecting information on inputs used and procedure length. For the calculation of costs, time was multiplied by nurses’ costs plus supplies. The US dollar was used to present the calculations. In the analysis, descriptive statistics of measures of central tendency and variability were used.
Results:
the sample corresponded to 139 observations. The average cost of PICC insertion totaled US$286.04, with 90.8% of materials, mainly catheter, and 9.2% of the labor. The procedure took an average of 50 minutes, at US$0.26 per minute for nurses. Conclusions: the average direct cost of PICC insertion was US$286.04, with emphasis on the catheter. The results can support management decisions for adequate material and professional sizing.

Objectives:
to identify the elements for assistance to patients with hematological malignancies to propose a care line.
Methods:
this is a scoping review, anchored in the JBI theoretical framework, with searches carried out in April 2021, in eight electronic databases and 10 repositories of theses and dissertations.
Results:
the final sample consisted of 93 studies, and the main forms of assistance provided that can support a care line for this public were imaging tests, immunophenotyping, chemotherapy regimens, radiotherapy, infection management, assessment of nutritional status, maintenance of oral function, symptom management and screening for second malignancies.
Conclusions:
the elaboration of a care line for onco-hematologic patients is necessary, considering the complexity surrounding the diagnosis and treatment of hematologic malignancies, in addition to the difficulties that are imposed in relation to access and continuity of care in the network.

Objectives:
to identify the prevalence and characteristics associated with sarcopenia in elders in Primary Health Care Units.
Methods:
cross-sectional study with 384 elders. To evaluate sarcopenia, we measured: strength and muscle mass, and physical performance. The elderly were classified as having: probable sarcopenia; sarcopenia; or severe sarcopenia. The chi-squared test and the multinomial logistic regression method were used.
Results:
the prevalence of probable sarcopenia was 25.52%; of sarcopenia, 11.98%; and of severe sarcopenia, 9.90%. Probable sarcopenia is 1.75 times more prevalent in men; osteoporosis is 2.16 times more prevalent in people with severe sarcopenia; polypharmacy is 1.57 times more likely in individuals with probable sarcopenia; and calf circumference below 31 cm is 2.24 times more likely in patients with sarcopenia and 2.19 times more likely in patients with severe sarcopenia.
Conclusions:
the highest prevalence was of probable sarcopenia, and the characteristics associated with sarcopenia were sex, osteoporosis, polypharmacy, overweight, obesity, and calf circumference.

Objective:
To investigate the independent and combined effects of lifestyle behaviors, including physical activity, sedentary behavior, sleep duration and food intake, in the health-related quality of life (HRQoL) of Brazilian adolescents.
Methods:
Cross-sectional school-based study, with the participation of 306 adolescents aged 14 to 18 years. A questionnaire was applied with structured questions to collect lifestyle behaviors data. Perception of the HRQoL was identified using the Kidscreen-27. The study used covariance analysis and linear regression models for statistical analysis.
Results:
Adolescents who reported ≤ 2 hours/day of screen-based sedentary behavior and sleep duration equivalent to 8-10 hours/night presented significantly higher HRQoL. Adolescents who reported joint adherence ≥ 3 healthy lifestyle behaviors demonstrated approximately two [OR=2.12] to three times [OR=3.04] more chance of presenting higher perceptions of HRQoL.
Conclusion:
Although healthy lifestyle behaviors had a positive independent effect on HRQoL, joint adherence to healthy behaviors enhances the cumulative effect.

Objectives:
to evaluate the prevalence of sarcopenia in individuals aged 50 years or older on hemodialysis; to verify the association between sarcopenia and sociodemographic, clinical, anthropometric factors, components of sarcopenia and quality of life (QoL); and to correlate the components of sarcopenia with QoL.
Methods:
Participated 83 individuals on hemodialysis. Sarcopenia was established according to the current European consensus. Dynamometry to determine strength, calf circumference (CC) and appendicular skeletal muscle mass index (ASMMI) to obtain muscle mass and gait speed (GS) for physical performance. For QoL used the WHOQOL-bref.
Results:
the prevalence of sarcopenia was 32.6% (CC) and 18.1% (ASMMI). There was no association between sarcopenia and QoL. Both handgrip strength (r=0.25) and GS (r=0.36) showed a correlation with physical domain.
Conclusions:
sarcopenia was expressive, and the aspects of functionality determine the physical impairment in this population.

Objective:
to analyze sleep quality of nurses who worked coping with COVID-19 in scientific evidence.
Methods:
an integrative review, carried out in seven databases, including studies between December 2021 and June 2022, without language restrictions. The sample consisted of 15 primary studies.
Results:
nurses working in hospital, intensive care, outpatient care and teaching institutions constitute a vulnerable group for sleep disorders: latency, duration, efficiency and quality. The disorders identified involved insomnia at varying levels of severity: daytime dysfunction and morning sleepiness. Night work and low capacity for self-care were determinants of impaired sleep patterns.
Final considerations:
the COVID-19 pandemic contributed to greater vulnerability of nurses to changes in sleep, requiring strategies for risk management and well-being promotion.

Objective:
To evaluate the functional capacity of long-lived older adults from Amazonas.
Method:
A cross-sectional epidemiological study was carried out with 116 older adults aged 80 years or older, registered in a primary health care unit in Belém, in the state of Pará, Brazil. The Functional Independence Measure (FIM) was used for functional capacity assessment and the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) for cognitive screening. Univariate and bivariate analyses were carried out, in addition to the Pearson’s chi-square test.
Results:
The older adults presented modified independence in the self-care, sphincter control and locomotion dimensions, and needed supervision for mobility/transfers. In mobility, men presented complete independence. Modified independence was found in the 80-89 age group. It was observed that, the lower the education level, the worse the cognitive performance.
Conclusion:
In spite of their advanced age, long-lived older adults still present functional capacity for activities of daily living, even though they required supervision for high energy expenditure tasks, such as mobility and transfers.

Objective:
to verify the validity and reliability of the Psychological Distress Scale for screening mental distress.
Methods:
a cross-sectional study with 75 elderly people. Psychological Distress scale and Self Reporting Questionnaire were used. Criterion validity was verified using Spearman’s correlation and diagnostic accuracy measures. Cronbach’s alpha coefficient was used to investigate reliability.
Results:
the total internal consistency of the Psychological Distress Scale was α=0.844. Concurrent validity between this instrument and the Self Reporting Questionnaire was ρ=0.722 (p<0.001). The best cut-off point for screening mental distress among elderly people was a total score greater than 14, with sensitivity equal to 75.47% and specificity equal to 85.0%.
Conclusions:
the scale was robust for screening mental distress, given its high reliability, in terms of homogeneity, and adequate criterion validity, whose best cut-off point for screening was a score greater than 14.

Objectives:
to analyze the health vulnerability of young female transgender living with HIV/AIDS.
Methods:
qualitative, descriptive, and exploratory study, based on the theoretical reference of Social Representation and concept of vulnerability; developed with six transgender women in a reference Hospital for HIV/AIDS. We analyzed the individual interviews, recorded, and transcribed in full, in the IRaMuTeQ software by Similitude Analysis.
Results:
the thematic categories are listed based on the Ayres reference: 1) Individual dimension of vulnerability to HIV/AIDS; 2) Social dimension of vulnerability to HIV/AIDS; 3) Programmatic dimension of the vulnerability.
Final Considerations:
the young female transsexual living with HIV/AIDS experience a context of vulnerability in health associated with a lack of knowledge and difficulties for the realization of self-care. The study evidenced the representations of social abjection and unpreparedness of the health team that compose the Primary Attention in Health in promoting qualified assistance for the execution of the effective and humanized care.

Objectives:
to create a software application for nursing education on child development assessment.
Methods:
this is a methodological applied research developed in three stages: analysis, design, and development. Product quality characteristics from the ISO/IEC 25010 standards were adopted. The programming language used was JavaScript. The educational software was developed based on a constructivist cognitive theory.
Results:
it was possible to create the software from the following quality metrics: functional suitability, reliability, usability, performance efficiency, compatibility, security, maintainability, and portability. The technology addresses child development in physical, cognitive, and psychosocial domains and how this assessment should be carried out in Brazil. The software has pre and posttests, 5 learning modules, certificate issuance, support for doubts, and an administrative panel. Final Considerations: it is concluded that the software adds to the existing tools for child development monitoring, facilitating students’ knowledge acquisition in promoting child health.

Objectives:
to analyze the educational demands of family members of children with special health care needs in the transition from hospital to home
Methods:
qualitative research conducted between February and June 2018, using the handbook on creativity and sensitivity dynamics, from the sensitive creative method; the participants were nine family caregivers of children admitted to a public hospital in Rio de Janeiro; the data were subjected to French discourse analysis
Results:
the educational demands were clinical, centered on the categories complex and continuous care, technological care, modified habits, medication, development and mixed care, and social, related to the supplies and rights of children
Final Considerations:
the social educational demand has emerged as a new demand to be incorporated in the care of these children. The transition from hospital to home should be progressive and have the nurse as its coordinator, with the objective of providing participatory, safe, quality care, articulated within a social network

Objective:
to construct the conceptual and operational definitions of the defining and conceptual characteristics of the related factors of the nursing diagnosis (ND) hypothermia (00006) of NANDA-I, 2015-2017, in adult patients in the perioperative period.
Method:
an integrative literature review in the Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online, Cochrane Library, The Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature and in Latin & American Literature in Health Sciences databases.
Results:
2,041 articles were found, 95 selected for reading in full and 24 used to construct such definitions. Gay literature was also explored to ensure robustness to the elucidation of topics not found in articles.
Conclusion:
such definitions will assist nurses in surgical practice in information collection, in accurate determination of the referred ND, in teaching and in future research related to this theme, as well as in the next validation stages of such ND to the referred population.

Objective:
To analyze the needs and facilitating and hindering elements related to transitional rehabilitation care.
Methods:
Integrative literature review oriented toward answering the question “What nursing interventions guarantee transitional rehabilitation care to dependent adult or elderly people when they return home after hospitalization?”.
Results:
The patients did not participate much in the planning of hospital discharge and decision-making when they had to return home. Informal caretakers reported that professionals showed detachment during hospitalization and delayed guiding instructions. Health professionals mentioned lack of time to offer this care modality as a difficulty.
Final considerations:
Ensuring training, follow-up, and coordination between care levels is essential. Care integration can reduce hospital stay and the impact of post-discharge complications. Transitional care contributes to a sustainable health system, higher care quality, and client satisfaction.

Objectives:
to explore the influence of health care practices on the burden of caregiver mothers of children with special health needs.
Methods:
observational, analytical, cross-sectional, quantitative study. Participation of 100 caregiver mothers, who responded the following instruments: characterization instrument; Burden Interview for Informal Caregivers; Perceptions of Family-Centered Care – Parents version; Evaluation Instrument for Primary Care – Child Version. For statistical analysis, were used the Spearman’s Correlation and univariate and multivariate linear regression analysis.
Results:
the mean burden score was 47.99. There was a negative correlation between the burden and the domains of collaboration and support of the Perceptions of Family-Centered Care scale. In the multivariate linear regression model, the longitudinality variable maintained a significant relation with the burden (p = 0.023).
Conclusions:
a shared, longitudinal and integrated care between families and health services can ease the burden of caregiver mothers.
