Objective:
Reflect on the essence of care in health vulnerability from the phenomenological perspective of Martin Heidegger.
Method:
Theoretical-reflexive study, anchored in three essential parts: 1) Care in Heidegger; 2) The essence of care in health vulnerability; And 3) Nursing care actions on health vulnerability.
Results:
Vulnerability must be recognized as an indelible trait of the human condition and has its constituents in the human being, co-presence and care. Caring is an interactive process that reveals itself in the relationship with the other. Respecting the integrity of the Being in vulnerability must be a priority in nursing care, through behaviors that privilege the Being.
Conclusion:
Understanding ontological care and its relation to vulnerability under Heidegger’s phenomenological view allowed us to uncover the facets of care in health vulnerability by adding to the nursing knowledge body a comprehensive and reflective perspective.

Objective:
To reflect on nursing supervision as a management tool for care comprehensiveness by nurses, considering its potential and limits in the current scenario.
Method:
A reflective study based on discourse about nursing supervision, presenting theoretical and practical concepts and approaches.
Results:
Limits on the exercise of supervision are related to the organization of healthcare services based on the functional and clinical model of care, in addition to possible gaps in the nurse training process and work overload. Regarding the potential, researchers emphasize that supervision is a tool for coordinating care and management actions, which may favor care comprehensiveness, and stimulate positive attitudes toward cooperation and contribution within teams, co-responsibility, and educational development at work.
Final considerations:
Nursing supervision may help enhance care comprehensiveness by implying continuous reflection on including the dynamics of the healthcare work process and user needs in care networks.

Objective:
To characterize the Brazilian workers victims of occupational accidents with biological fluids.
Method:
Epidemiological and descriptive research, in which 284,877 notifications of the Notifiable Diseases Information System were analyzed between 2007 and 2014. We used Stata 13 for data analysis.
Results:
The highest incidence density occurred in females with 0.8 cases per 1,000 workers/year (n = 222,042, 77.9%); in the age group of 20 to 24 years old, with 0.6 cases per 1,000 workers/year (n = 64,221, 23.3%); with some high school and some college, with 0.6 cases per 1,000 workers/year (n = 141,275, 49.6%). We found that these accidents occurred among 23 occupational subgroups. For the most part, the workers had an employment relationship and had issued the Occupational Accident Notification.
Conclusion:
It is necessary to rethink the measures of orientation to workers regarding the risks and relative prophylaxis for these accidents, with the aim of reducing them.

Objective:
to correlate socio-contextual aspects, physical vulnerability and quality of life of older persons in the community in different situations of family care.
Methods:
epidemiological, a cross-sectional and analytical study, with elderly people in the community (n=769), with application of the instruments: Vulnerable Elders Survey-13 (VES-13), World Health Organization Quality of Life for Older Persons (WHOQOL-OLD) and the World Health Organization Quality of Life (WHOQOL-BREF); and socio-contextual data questionnaire.
Results:
the population assessed presented an average of regular quality of life in both the WHOQOL-BREF and the WHOQOL-OLD. Older non-vulnerable persons (62.2%) and those with close family contact (82.6%) have a better quality of life than the vulnerable (p<0.0001).
Conclusion:
lower quality of life scores and more distant families are related to vulnerable elderly people; thus, the assessment of family proximity and physical vulnerability of older persons is shown to be an important factor in improving quality of life.

Objective:
To investigate the independent and combined effects of lifestyle behaviors, including physical activity, sedentary behavior, sleep duration and food intake, in the health-related quality of life (HRQoL) of Brazilian adolescents.
Methods:
Cross-sectional school-based study, with the participation of 306 adolescents aged 14 to 18 years. A questionnaire was applied with structured questions to collect lifestyle behaviors data. Perception of the HRQoL was identified using the Kidscreen-27. The study used covariance analysis and linear regression models for statistical analysis.
Results:
Adolescents who reported ≤ 2 hours/day of screen-based sedentary behavior and sleep duration equivalent to 8-10 hours/night presented significantly higher HRQoL. Adolescents who reported joint adherence ≥ 3 healthy lifestyle behaviors demonstrated approximately two [OR=2.12] to three times [OR=3.04] more chance of presenting higher perceptions of HRQoL.
Conclusion:
Although healthy lifestyle behaviors had a positive independent effect on HRQoL, joint adherence to healthy behaviors enhances the cumulative effect.

Objective:
to analyze the constitution of care offered to older adults with disabilities, from Long Term Care Facility professionals’ perspective.
Methods:
this is a discourse analysis based on the post-structuralist framework. Participants in this study are professionals involved in the care for older adults, totaling 14 respondents, 13 women and one man.
Results:
from professionals’ perspective, there is a fine line between caring for older adults with disabilities and maintaining their autonomy. Care in which autonomy is restricted predisposes older adults to a process of dependency.
Final considerations:
caring for older adults with disabilities constitutes the challenge between caring and maintaining independence. Thus, older adult-centered care should be taken as a premise so that their individualities are respected.

Objective:
to evaluate, in emergency hospital service and at home, the functional independence of elderly people who fell.
Method:
longitudinal study with 151 elderly. Functional Independence Measure (FIM) was used. Statistical tests were performed with univariate and bivariate analysis.
Results:
mean of total FIM value in the hospital was 70.4; and at home 84.3 (p <0.001). Independence was lower in the motor domain, in “self-care”, “mobility” and “locomotion” dimensions, in the two evaluations (p <0.001). Dependence reduced from 97.3% elderly in the hospital to 82.8% at home (p <0.001). There was a negative correlation between total FIM and age, number of medications, number of diseases and hospitalization time in both evaluations. Femoral and hip fractures were associated with lower total FIM values (p <0.001).
Conclusion:
the elderly had less independence in the hospital compared to at home, with greater impairment in the motor domain and “self-care”, “mobility” and “locomotion” dimensions, in the two moments evaluated.

Objectives:
to analyze how children with type 1 diabetes mellitus and their families explain the pathology, based on their understanding of the factors related to the discovery of diabetes, the etiology, treatment, and prognosis of the disease.
Methods:
qualitative methodological approach, based on medical anthropology and the narrative method. In-depth interviews were conducted with 12 families of children with type 1 diabetes mellitus attending follow-up consultations at a specialized center. The statements were subjected to inductive thematic analysis.
Results:
the explanatory models identified describe the families search for the clarification of the signs and symptoms that the child had. Faced with the disease, families reorganized themselves to meet new health care needs of children, such as adequate nutrition, physical exercise, and blood glucose monitoring.
Final Considerations:
knowing the explanatory models allows the understanding of how families give meaning to the child’s illness, favoring daily nursing care and an effective control of the disease.
