Objectives:
to evaluate the effectiveness of peripheral central catheterization by comparing the modified Seldinger technique and the conventional technique in critically ill newborns.
Methods:
randomized unmasked clinical trial conducted in a public children’s hospital. Participation of 111 newborns with randomized allocation, 56 in the control group (conventional technique) and 55 in the experimental group (modified Seldinger). Success and absence of complications were evaluated as primary outcomes. The pain scale, difficulty in hemostasis, procedure time and number of punctures were considered secondary outcomes.
Results:
there was no statistical significance between groups, either for success (p=0.705) or absence of complications (p=0.347). A lower pain score, improved hemostasis, increased assertiveness with fewer punctures and reduced procedure time were not observed in the experimental group.
Conclusions:
the modified Seldinger technique did not prove to be a more effective insertion technology compared to the conventional method. Brazilian Clinical Trial Registry: RBR-69vks36.

Objectives:
to analyze the relationship between religion and professional experience with spiritual intelligence in nurses
Methods:
cross-sectional and analytical study carried out in 2021, with the participation of 544 nursing professionals working in health facilities in Peru during the COVID-19 pandemic. Multiple regression analysis and Pearson’s correlation were used to analyze the data.
Results:
in nurses, a healthy level of spiritual intelligence predominated (42.8%). Those who did not profess a religion were more likely to have a lower spiritual intelligence score (global scale and dimensions); however, experienced nurses were more likely to have higher spiritual intelligence (global scale and dimensions) than novice nurses (p<0.05).
Conclusions:
spiritual intelligence in nurses was predicted by religion and professional experience. This finding suggests that spiritual intelligence in nursing is consolidated through religious practices and during professional practice.

Objectives:
to identify the process of health literacy development among primary care patients, relating it to their self-care practices.
Methods:
qualitative, prospective research with 22 patients from two Family Health Strategy units. Data were obtained through individual semi-structured interviews, examined through descriptive statistics and thematic content analysis.
Results:
the results discuss how participants learn about health and how this resonates in their behaviors, culminating in two thematic categories: “Health knowledge construction”; and “Dialogue between health knowledge construction and patient care actions”.
Final Considerations:
health knowledge is developed mainly through interpersonal relationships, mediated by health professionals through bonding and communication. Community educational actions and training of health professionals in communication can promote health literacy and self-care among patients.

Objectives:
to compare the knowledge and attitudes of nursing students regarding sexual behavior and sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in older adults before and after an educational intervention.
Methods:
this quasi-experimental study involved a convenience sample of 45 nursing students from a public university, conducted in three stages: pre-intervention, intervention, and post-intervention. A questionnaire was used to assess sociodemographic characteristics, academic training, and knowledge and attitudes on the topic. The intervention was an educational web conference. Paired t-test and Wilcoxon test were used for data analysis.
Results:
there was a statistically significant difference in the knowledge and attitude scores of nursing students before and after the educational intervention (p < 0.001). A significant increase was observed in the knowledge score (from 9.3 to 12.2) and attitude score (from 108 to 117.2) in the post-intervention phase.
Conclusions:
the knowledge of nursing students regarding the sexuality of older adults increased after the educational intervention, and their attitudes on the subject became more positive.

Objectives:
to analyze the possibilities and potential of training indigenous nurses, given the Brazilian Health System (SUS), understanding the relationships between education and health.
Methods:
theoretical-reflective study, based on scientific literature, aligned with the experience, critical thinking of its authors and the Sustainable Development Goals in Brazil.
Results:
this text articulates three axes: Potential for including indigenous students in nursing training; Paths to achieving equity through inclusion and retention policies for indigenous students at different levels; and Implications of this for the SUS and global health.
Final Considerations:
indigenous students, beneficiaries of affirmative actions, face challenges of inclusion and retention in public universities that directly impact their academic training. Added to this are the difficulties identified in basic education, professor training and implementation of permanence policies, with consequences for services and training at other levels.

Objective:
to analyze the factors related to the impaired comfort of chronic kidney diseases (CKD) patients on hemodialysis.
Method:
this is a cross-sectional study with 80 patients undergoing hemodialysis in a renal replacement therapy unit through interviews using two instruments, one for clinical and sociodemographic characteristics and the General Comfort Questionnaire, during the hemodialysis session. Mann-Whitney tests and the logistic regression model were used for data analysis.
Results:
the study found that being younger (p=0.045); being married (p=0.05); and absence of impaired physical mobility (p=0.007) were contributing factors for greater comfort in CKD patients on hemodialysis. Thus, when establishing the odds ratio, it was possible to observe that being 55 years of age or older, being single and having impaired physical mobility represents a 45.7% chance of developing this diagnosis.
Conclusions:
sociodemographic and clinical variables contribute to the study outcome, demanding attention during the planning of nursing interventions.
