Objectives:
to understand the perceptions of women and health professionals regarding childbirth care at a teaching hospital in the western state of Paraná, Brazil.
Methods:
this qualitative study employed Grounded Theory, conducted in an obstetric care service with 38 participants (women and health professionals) through semi-structured interviews.
Results:
limitations in physical infrastructure and management of care, along with the women’s limited knowledge about the childbirth process and the decision-making and guidance of professionals, show conflicting obstetric practices-a discrepancy between good practices and obstetric violence. Training in obstetric nursing and active participation in care, alongside the presence of a companion, were identified as intervening conditions and strategies in the process.
Final Considerations:
childbirth care is characterized by dichotomous practices. While some professionals base their practices on scientific evidence, others rely on teachings and experiences from the time of their training.

Objectives:
to analyze the relationship between the nursing practice environment and hospital sociotechnical complexity as perceived by nurses.
Methods:
a sequential explanatory mixed-methods study was conducted in a hospital in southern Brazil. The Brazilian version of the Practice Environment Scale-Nursing Work Index and the Complexity Characterization Questionnaire were administered to 132 nurses. Subsequently, semi-structured interviews were conducted with 18 participants, and the data were subjected to thematic analysis. Data integration was achieved through a connection approach.
Results:
the nursing practice environment was found to be favorable, except in the subscale concerning Staffing and Resource Adequacy, where complexity was present in the activities. The three emerging categories explained human and technical aspects related to complexity in the practice environment, quality of care, and patient safety. Unexpected variability was inversely correlated with the practice environment.
Conclusions:
the study results indicate a relationship between these constructs, with implications for the quality and the safety of care.

Objective:
Understand the beliefs, knowledge, and actions of nursing technicians on breastfeeding as a form of non-pharmacological intervention to relieve pain in newborns and infants during immunization.
Methods:
Qualitative study carried out through semi-structured interviews with nine nursing technicians from three Basic Health Units in a city in the state of São Paulo. The theoretical approach of the Belief Model and the methodological framework of Thematic Analysis supported this study.
Results:
Three themes originated: Beliefs, Knowledge, and Actions of nursing technicians.
Final considerations:
Despite knowledge about the benefits of breastfeeding as the most effective method for relieving pain in newborns and infants during vaccination, their restrictive beliefs overrode the evidence, leading them to act in ways that discourage or prevent the mother from breastfeed during vaccination. Formal training is recommended to align with current evidence-based practices.

Method:
Reflective study, carried out in April 2020, based on the recommendations of the World Health Organization and the guide for the implementation of the five components of the Multimodal Strategy: system change related to infrastructure; training/education; evaluation and feedback; reminders in the workplace; and institutional security climate.
Results:
The Multimodal Strategy, proposed for hospitals in general, can be adapted for field hospitals in order to reduce the transmission of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. Investments to adapt the infrastructure and education of workers require foresight and speed and are of special relevance to promote hand hygiene in this care context.
Final considerations:
Adjusting the Multimodal Strategy, especially for the reduced time in the execution of each component, is necessary for field hospitals with a view to preventing COVID-19.

this cross-sectional study was carried out in 14 institutions, with a final sample of 443 elderly people. Mechanical restraint was considered as a dependent variable.
Results:
there was a 7.45% prevalence of mechanical restraint considering bed rails and 3.84% without considering bed rails. Main justification for restraint use was risk of falls (66.7%), and restraint duration was 24 hours (84.8%). The factors associated with the dependent variable were: wandering (p=0.000); MMSE, with cognitive loss (p=0.000); Katz Index, with dependence for Activities of Daily Living (p=0.000); and Alzheimer’s comorbidity (p=0.001)
Conclusion:
prevalence was lower than international studies, but there was an association with worsening of wandering, dependence, cognitive worsening, and Alzheimer’s Disease, showing the need for alternative interventions to mechanical restraint.

Objective:
to reflect on the connection between self-image, self-esteem, active sexuality, and quality of life in ageing; identify which measurement instruments in Brazilian and international literature interconnectively address the connections referred to in the general objective.
Method:
a theoretical-reflexive essay.
Results:
the reflection was described in the guiding axes: Connections between self-image, self-esteem, active sexuality, and quality of life in ageing; Interlocutions and instruments for measuring the connection between sexuality and ageing. Instruments in Brazilian and international literature are unable to address this topic in an interconnected way. Limitations and disadvantages of application with elderly individuals are presented.
Final considerations:
carrying out qualitative research and validating quantitative instruments that show connections and interlocutions, without stigmas and reprimands, common in this age group, should be encouraged in the scientific field and in social spaces.
