    ABSTRACT

    Objectives:

to summarize historical aspects related to perioperative nursing education in Brazil and to outline future perspectives.

    Methods:

a descriptive-reflexive essay about the historical process of Brazilian perioperative teaching at undergraduate and graduate levels.

    Results:

the reflection addresses the historical axes of perioperative nursing, teaching perioperative nursing, curriculum changes, graduate studies and relationship with the perioperative period and trends in perioperative nursing education. Curriculum changes reduced time available for teaching and learning, with a focus on the perioperative period, and diluted contents of surgical nursing in other subjects, which could cause irreversible losses for generalist nurses’ training.

    Final Considerations:

when reviewing historical aspects of national nursing curricula, it was found that the nomenclature perioperative nursing was never used in the curriculum, however, the surgical area has always been contemplated in undergraduate and graduate studies. Future trends indicate the need to integrate themes and prepare professionals with perspectives focused on global health and technology.

    ABSTRACT

    Objectives:

to reflect on the governmental normative acts issued for higher education during the COVID-19 pandemic and on the repercussions of these acts on the quality of nursing education in Brazil.

    Methods:

this is a reflection on the repercussions for the quality of nursing education, based on the normative acts applied to higher education, enacted from March to December 2020, available on the Ministry of Education website and in the current literature on the subject anchored in the National Curriculum Guidelines for the Undergraduate Nursing Course.

    Results:

educational legislation, in the context of the pandemic, distanced education from the world of work, as well as from the quality of training established in the guidelines.

    Final Considerations:

remote teaching in nursing makes it difficult to train professionals with the capacity to effectively teach and learn in the real world of care and health promotion in the Unified Health System.

    ABSTRACT

    Objectives:

to reflect on the global understanding of the Nursing Process concept, with emphasis on the Brazilian context.

    Methods:

a reflection article, aligned with the vision and expertise of researchers who are members of the Nursing Process Research Network.

    Results:

the reflection is presented in two main topics: The evolution of Systematization of Nursing Care X Nursing Process concepts and its consonance with national and international practices, and Brazilian legislation; The Nursing Process concept realignment in Brazilian legislation in line with current care, teaching and research practices. Final Considerations: the reflections were oriented to the Nursing Process’ conceptual, normative and legal issues, including elements of its historical evolution, and, with that, pointed to the need to modify the Brazilian regulation on the Nursing Process.

Universal health system based on Primary Care and advanced practice nursing

    ABSTRACT

    Objective:

To reflect on advanced practice nursing in Primary Health Care considering the complexity of the Brazilian health system.

    Methods:

Reflective study, based on the document “Expanding the role of nurses in Primary Health Care” and anchored in the literature and critical analysis of the authors.

    Results:

Due to the complexity of the Unified Health System — in terms of infrastructure, human resources, funding — it is important for Brazil to carry out its own systematic process of discussion on the implementation of advanced practice nursing, considering the context of the current health care model, to define the role of this practice according to the characteristics of a universal health system and not a universal health coverage. Final considerations: The expansion of the workforce and the insertion of advanced practice nursing in Brazilian Primary Health Care needs to happen with greater recognition and incentives for the actions performed at this level of care. For example, they must occur through integration between professionals and the community in health promotion actions, with the availability of appropriate technologies for the work, in order to guarantee the quality and resolution of Primary Health Care.

    ABSTRACT

    Objective:

Reflect on how the evolution of legislation related to blood and blood-based products has shaped the role of nurses in hemotherapy services.

    Methods:

A reflective study, carried out employing surveys in databases, about the evolution of the nurse’s role in hemotherapy services.

    Results:

Several legislations, published since 1950, have encouraged blood donation and shaped the work of nurses in hemotherapy services, being the most relevant Law #10.205/2001 (Lei nº 10.205/2001), about blood collection, processing, storage, distribution, and blood transfusion; and COFEN’s resolution # 629/2020 (COFEN nº 629/2020), which addresses in detail the practice of these services.

    Final considerations:

The evolution of legislation related to blood and blood-based products contributed to the consolidation of nurses’ attributions in hemotherapy services since it guaranteed legal support and defined the practices in these services.

    ABSTRACT

    Objectives:

to reflect on the training of teachers in the field of health from the perspective of interprofessional education.

    Methods:

an essay based on the dialogue between the scientific literature, the health education inducing policies, and studies in the fields of research and teaching activities in pedagogical projects based on interprofessional education.

    Results:

teaching in health is revealed as a social practice that is built on multiple collaborative movements and training moments. In this sense, the presence of echoes and resonances of the inducing policies necessary for the reorientation of health education in the proposals for teacher development is recognized.

    ABSTRACT

    Objective:

To reflect on how human resource health managers and talent managers may engage and retain experienced nursing professionals in Brazil.

    Methods:

Reflection based on studies on global and Brazilian-specific nursing professionals and retention, before and during the COVID-19 pandemic.

    Results:

The pandemic worsened working conditions for all health professionals. Nursing professionals were particularly affected. Nurses have been viewed as “heroes” and “essential” frontline workers during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, despite the universal praise for their efforts, it seems uncertain if they were actually considered and managed like talent.

    Final considerations:

In order to develop a sustainable healthcare system supported by sufficient experienced nursing talent, healthcare human resource managers and talent managers must develop and implement impactful nursing talent retention and engagement strategies. We highlight possible strategies targeting experienced nursing talent that will help to sustain the Brazilian healthcare system, post-pandemic.

    ABSTRACT

    Objectives:

to discuss, in the light of Florence Nightingale, the historical position of art as a constituent device of evidence-based nursing practice.

    Methods:

reflective study anchored in the writings of Nightingale and other researchers with whom it is possible to have a profound dialogue on the theme “art in nursing”.

    Results:

art is related to two essential elements in the practice of nursing: knowledge and skill. Understanding science as knowledge and art as skill leads to the idea that both make it possible to combine technical competence, compassion, ethics, and individualization of care. Final Considerations: the art of nursing is the continuous exercise of detailed perception, so that the subjective aspect becomes the center to which the nurse’s gaze converges, that which will allow them to unveil the “truth” posed by the patient, resulting in the best intervention for him.
