    ABSTRACT

    Objective:

To discuss the potentialities of using the concept of vulnerability to support measures for preventing and controlling healthcare-associated infections (HAIs).

    Methods:

This theoretical study was conducted in steps: 1) presentation of markers that frame the concept of vulnerability; 2) presentation of the characteristics of the health events to which the concept of vulnerability is intended to be applied; 3) identification of research gaps that could be potentially filled by using the concept of vulnerability; 4) identification of the potentialities of using the concept of vulnerability to deal with HAIs.

    Results:

Proposal of a framework for analyzing HAIs from a vulnerability perspective, including the individual and collective dimensions.

    Conclusion:

Using the concept of vulnerability to study and deal with HAIs favors a new approach to an old problem, unlike the dominant studies that highlight the individual aspects of the practices in healthcare services.

    ABSTRACT

    Objective:

To describe the investigative path of analysis and the operationality of concepts based on Martin Heidegger's theoretical and philosophical framework.

    Method:

Theoretical reflection on the phenomenon of pregnancy in a woman with heart disease.

    Results:

Stages of the investigative movement were evidenced based on the pre-reflection related to the object of study and to the search for the phenomenal meaning, using the existential and analytical Hermeneutics as the approach and resulting in the reach of the phenomenal totality.

    Conclusion:

The worldview of the researcher, who considered the subjectivities of the person in a health or disease situation, favored the announcement of the referential by the object of study. Knowledge production in the light of Martin Heidegger's phenomenology unveiled phenomena lived and experienced in the Health and Nursing field, provided of epistemological rigor that demanded appropriation of concepts inherent to the existential analytics.

    ABSTRACT

    Objective:

To critically reflect on the conceptual components of the Tidal Model in the application of the mental healthcare process.

    Method:

Critical analysis based on the Models of Theory Analysis, focused on the clarity and consistency of the theoretical components of the Tidal Model.

    Results:

The clarity of the theory was verified through the demonstration of the following components: functional, presuppositions, concepts and propositions. The consistency is due to the possibility of proven application in several countries with different populations.

    Conclusion:

There is a vast field of research and possibilities of application in the Brazilian nursing consultation, in search of usefulness and support in nursing care.

    ABSTRACT

    Objective:

to approach the basic conceptions of Pierre Bourdieu's sociology and its articulation with the subfield of nursing by focusing on managerial aspects.

    Method:

reflections are based on the concepts of field, habitus, capital and symbolic power applied to the subfield of nursing by favoring the understanding of organizational dynamics and its agents.

    Result:

health institutions are living structures in the adverse social world where nursing agents' interests express their way of thinking and acting according to the place they occupy in the organization. These spaces of fight and symbolic violence tend to inculcate ideologies that meet these agents' interests.

    Final Considerations:

The proposition theory is fruitful to reflect the practice of management by unveiling the relationships and role that organizations establish about their agents. She warns about the possibility of seeing changes in the subfield of nursing.

    ABSTRACT

    Objective:

to explain about the Advanced Nursing Practice and to discuss the possibilities of the Advanced Practice for the management of nursing care in Brazil.

    Method:

this is a theoretical-reflexive trial, based on the international literature on advanced practices in nursing and analysis relevant to the profession and to the Brazilian context.

    Results:

the object of the study was described in the following driving axes: Advanced Practice Nurse: international examples and Brazilian reality; Reflections on the care management by the Advanced Practice Nurse in Brazil. Autonomy, qualified training, leadership and performance based on scientific evidences as the foundation of the best care management by the Advanced Nursing Practice, stand out.

    Final considerations:

while early and challenging, the work of Brazilian nursing towards advanced professional practice seems to be interesting, since the possibilities of managing the care of this modality of nurses' performance are evident.

    ABSTRACT

    Objective:

to discuss, taking for reference the crisis in Brazil and its impact on public health policies, the insertion of Brazilian nursing in that context and its ways of practicing the profession, based on the study about the politicality of care.

    Method:

the reflection is divided into two topics, the first is about public policies, the Brazilian Unified Health System and the deconstruction of the right to health with neoliberal offensive; and the second is about the nursing political action in the fight for the right to health and for democracy.

    Final considerations:

we emphasize that nursing must assume its sociopolitical role to contribute to the construction of a better and fairer Brazil, saying no to neoliberal reforms, as well as fighting for rights already acquired and for the resumption of the democratic stability in the country.

    ABSTRACT

    Objective:

to reflect on the contributions of Jean Watson's theory to the nurses' holistic critical thinking.

    Method:

This is a theoretical reflection article, on which scientific productions about Jean Watson's human care theory, published in national and international periodicals, were based.

    Results:

Jean Watson's theory and its contribution to the nurses' holistic critical thinking; the interface of critical holistic thinking in teaching the nursing diagnosis process according to Watson's theory; contributions of critical holistic thinking to the nursing field.

    Final considerations:

Jean Watson's theory is based on the humanistic aspects and on the ethical and spiritual dimensions of care, considering the characteristics of each individual and their bio-psycho-spiritual-social needs, which can contribute fundamentally to the development of holistic critical thinking and to the role of the nurse in care, teaching and research fields

    ABSTRACT

    Objective:

To reflect on the key concepts of the book The Structure of Scientific Revolutions and its applicability in professional master's in nursing.

    Method:

This is a theoretical-reflective study that uses the philosophical and epistemological conceptions of the philosopher Thomas Samuel Kuhn to consider its applicability on the paradigm shift of stricto sensu graduate courses in nursing. The main concepts of Kuhn were used as support: paradigm, anomaly, scientific community and scientific revolution.

    Results:

The propositions of this philosopher are applied to and support the theoretical reflection on professional master's programs, contributing to clarify what would be a paradigmatic visionary perspective in stricto sensu master's models in nursing.

    Conclusion:

From Kuhn's propositions it was possible to conclude that professional master's programs in nursing can break away from the dominant paradigm, strengthening a scientific revolution within the academia.
